Goldfrapp...Opinions?

Are Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory, the duo that make Goldfrapp the saviours of pop music?

Supernature is a major letdown if we compare it 2 Black Cherry!

As we say here..."We LOVE Goldfrapp"

My opinion is that the first album was a Masterpiece...and rightfully so. Such sorrow and sadness draped like a cool fog in the mountians. SOngs like Human, Pilots, Utopia are timeless classics. In fact the album sounds timeless. It's near impossible to tell it was made when it was.

Black Cherry was also good. They smartfully added a little zing to their songs. It's the best was not to pigeon hole one self to any particular sound. They also played on the popularity of "elecrtro clash" when it was just becoming. The album also maintained it's roots from the previous with Hairy Trees and Black Cherry. To be Honest, I thought Stirt Machine was a bit over the top and it sounded like that 70's "I'm in love' (I am sure that's not the title...but the riff of the song sounds lifted). One thing they lost was the "timeless" quality that existed on the last one. They also compromised with the Beats in that some of the somgs were too similar to each other. That said I really have no complaints about it.

Supernature...A name that echos Erasure for me...anyhoo. All of the songs sound like the electro clash from the previous. Ohh La La sounds like a Strict Machine ripoff...though I have to say I think it sounds better and more lush. The rest of the songs seem to sound...well similar. I didn't hear any previews that made me think of the first album...nor any that made me go WOW. I will still buy it and judge it on its own. They have yet to put out a bad record.

I just hope that they won't go by the way all boy/girl duos do. I hope they are NOT a couple. Goldfrapp is very original I think. ANd in the same vain as...Portishead and Tricky. SO I liked that in them.

We LOVE Goldfrapp.

Where did you seem them live? I saw Goldfrapp live in NYC at Irving Plaza a few years ago and was very impressed.

I have that DVD and thought the performances sounded fantastic. I don't feel however that the DVD was fully able to capture the excitement visually that I felt when I saw them live.

The new album Supernature is in U.K. stores today. It will be released in the U.S. next year. Goldfrapp also contributed music to the 'My Summer Of Love' soundtrack which is out now in the U.S.

That's probably the same show. I dunno...My friends and I were all pretty psyched for the show, but she was just so cold (and not in a fun campy way) that we were all really disappointed. Her voice is just rich and warm that the whole Ilsa the Nazi Queen shtick was just irritating to me.

I guess you can't please everybody. The person I went with was just as impressed with the show as I was.

I've never heard of Goldfrapp recording a Human League cover. Maybe you're thinking of someone else? They did do a remix for Depeche Mode recently. And their remake of Olivia Newton John's "Physical" is legend.
