Whatever happened to those "least talented of the group so they formed their own group" bastards?

Actually, I always liked BBD. And by always, I mean their first album and no albums after that. They were raw; they sang about sexing people up; they were the NE guys that weren't Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant or Johnny Gill. "Poison" was THE song of my senior year in high school, as I met many girls who were poison that year. Well, maybe not poison but I know at least some of them had cooties. Anywho, the whole first album was great in that extremely dated sort of way. "Do Me Baby" had some of the best lyrics ever composed on wax (ahem..."slap it up, flip it, rub it down, oh nooooo". I even liked "When Will I See You Smile Again" and Bell had some chops. Bell could sing, Biv could produce and rap and...well Devoe could stand there and be tall.

Follow up albums stiffed. They had a half decent song called "Gangsta" come out and it did so poorly that they didn't put it on their next CD. Their next album, "Hootie Mack", was all about the joys of ganja and I wasn't feeling it. They had another self-titled album which did even worse and currently I believe they may be touring with whatever is left of NE.

BBD...bring them back!

I believe about 3-4 years ago they had a cd...although not sure, i know there were two singles that came out.

so who was responsible for the sound and success of the first album?

as awesome as it was the band should have at least had two albums left in em after that...

I believe it was the element of surprise that attributed to the first album's success. I don't think anyone thought these guys did anything in NE and when they come on with a very strong first single like Poison it propelled the album. Their other efforts seemed lackadaisacal and lazy and I think radio had moved on from their hip hop on a r and b tip to Alanis or Hootie or...well just something else. But the band had promise and more talent than anyone had a right to expect. Just couldn't sustain it.

That's why we have to bring them back!

They dropped a CD a few years back and it flopped, as it should have. No one wants to hear from those dudes again, their time has come and past.

But they were the 1st cats to introduce the sing/rap style.

I love old BBD songs. They should come back again after the new New Edition album, that is.

They had a song I think from their second album "Something in your eyes". There was a video that ran constantly on BET's show that came on 12am. I really liked this song. I think I still know all the words.

I liked the 2 slow songs at the end of the album. When Will I See You Smile Again and I Do Need You.

its distinct and timeless if you ask me...if they had songs just as strong as poison within the same style im sure it could be a hit today...

The Bomb Squad were the same production crew that also produced Ice Cube's first solo album & the first 3 Public Enemy albums.

They also produced Aaron Hall's fist solo album.

When I was 14, the Hootie Mack album was in regular rotation at my crib. Something In Your Eyes was one of the biggest jams of 1993 around these parts.

Bomb Squad was basically Public Enemy's production team who made the album what it was.

The idea for BBD's style came from a suggestion from Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis which they gave to New Edition during the Heartbreak tour, and Michael Bivins ran with it.

I use to play the "poison" album out. Got their home video somewhere.

Only BBD track I play are "somethign in ur eyes" "i need you" and "word to the mutha" remix. Which was a single and was off their remix album. It was a full NE reunion, with bobby and ralph doing raps and johnny doing little on the backing vox.
Good track.

The video has them looking all ghetto (back in 1991) going through the streets of boston.
