![]() Well, Nile is still alive and kickin'. Roger was the shit, bless his soul. Of course Jimmy Nolen. If you're talking about cats that's still living, then obviously u gotta take my boy Hazel off the list. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

To the ones mentioned I'd add
Mike "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton (in some ways, I kind of like his live recreation of the Maggot Brain solo better than Eddie's original) Bootsy Collins (primarily a rhythm guitarist, but that's mostly what standard funk guitar (as opposed to Funk-rock guitar) is) Sly Stone (for all the parts other than Freddie's, and most all the parts in Riot And Fresh, we salute you) Curtis Mayfield (master of the wah wah scratching) Junie Morrison (known as a keyboardist, but also gifted on all the other standard rock instruments, like prince) Michael Sembello Jimi Hendrix (as much an influence on funk players as rock players fo' sho') Jeff Beck (check out his instrumental funk/fusion albums like Blow By Blow and Wired)

That's where MJ got "hee hee" from. Also Ray's intro on "You Got The Love" is great. Nile is kicking on the new Chic DVD. All neck pickup. Jerome Smith is very important too.

Y'all really know y'all's stuff because I just know the music and the groups. I don't know which members play which instruments except for a few of them. However, I do know Nile Rodgers plays the hell out of that guitar in Chic. ![]() Andy is a four letter word.

Mind if I throw in a couple?
Otis Redding II. Highly underrated. Pick up any of the Reddings's albums and you'd see. George Johnson (The Bros. Johnson) Reggie Wooten (Victor Wooten's brother) will funk your mind up! Ike Turner (f*ck what ya heard, peep "Nutbush City Limits" and tell me he ain't funky) Rufus (Rufus & Chaka Khan) Andre Cymone (peep "Still A Thrill" by Jody Watley) David Ryan Harris (Follow For Now & solo work)

David Fuze - MeShell, Screaming Headless Torsos.
Jef Lee Johnson - Chaka and everyone else on the planet The dude that plays guitar in Jamiroquai..VERY funky. Jean Paul Bourelly - Spacy funk Charlie Singleton - Cameo Kendall from Fishbone Tom McDermott - Stone City Band Jimi Hazel - Spyz..plays some great funky clean licks when he wants to. Eddie Martinez - RUN DMC,Robert Palmer - Check out Palmer's "Heavy Nova". Curtis Mayfield

He was always the one most seen with an instrument...Not much incentive for any of the former Jackson 5 to play anymore since they can retire on any royalties from the Motown days, but I've always been curious how well those cats can play their own music. ![]() ![]() Some people tell me I've got great legs...

a bad boy indeed, but he was on Bass... Mark "Drac" Hicks was the guitarist, along with Danny Webster.... Mark Adams was Slave's monster Bass player.... ... [Edited 8/19/05 8:28am] " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout
