Kayne West's radio station incident in Canada (video link included) I got all of this info from allhiphop.com:
----- KANYE STANDS FOR SOMETHING! I got this rumor hot off the presses. From what I understand, Kanye is on a radio tour of Canada. He was being interviewed on Toronto's “only” Urban Radio Station Flow 93.5 FM, but he had some issues with their policies of editing his songs. The interview suddenly got political. Kanye insisted to the program director that they stop censoring his songs. For example Kanye said the station beeped out the term “White girl” on his "Gold Digger" song, yet allowed the word "a**" to be heard. As he talked, I heard he was continuously cut off and prevented from speaking fully, from what I was told. I heard that Flow’s DJ Hollywood Rich found that quite funny. But, Kanye didn’t. He tossed his headset and rolled. For my Canadians, nobody knows if Kanye will make a scheduled autograph signing. Incidentally, I have been hearing that Kanyeezie has been having the same issues with other cable outlets in America that play his video. Why are people scared of a lil’ “White girl?” Big shout out to all my people in Toronto and Canada! I didn’t make it to Caribana ‘05, but maybe next year! MORE ON KANYE IN CANADA! My man J.Kilius broke down the whole Kanye in Canada thing for me. By the way, the issue surrounding this stuff is in effect in America too. I don’t see what the big deal is. Anyway, check it out: “Hey man, you can't say white girl in Canada. Well dude I live in Toronto and this is the most politically correct city in the world. Minorities make up 52% of the population (Which make them the majority) white people are a minority. You can swear hear, you can have pornos on cable at 9:00 pm. But do not use politically incorrect words. On rap videos you can say F***er but not Motherf***er. They actually bleep the mother and let f***er go. In Nova Scotia (a province of Canada), you cant say retard - you have to say mentally challenged. So Kanye says White girl, and gets upset. Well dude saying cracker white girl is all against the charter some how. Anyway I know you’re like what the hell is bad about white girl. I don't know, but you can't say Black man either. It is just the wacky world of Canada.” MORE ON THE TIRED KANYE STUFF… This is the last time that I mention this Kanye in Canada stuff. Click here to see if Kanye was whining or being provoked! http://toronto.dose.ca/we.../kanye.mov ----- I feel where Kanye is coming from, but tha part of he jumping away from the table is funny as hell! I bet the DJ almost pissed on himself. LOL! "IM TALKING MANNNN!!!!!" Dont fuck with Kanye! | |

Whoa that was deep right there. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that | |

He's proving to be a little too bright for those who would want to keep ppl like 50 on top. [Edited 8/19/05 22:32pm] | |

I bet the DJ almost pissed on himself. LOL! "IM TALKING MANNNN!!!!!" Dont fuck with Kanye! I am from toronto..and I think I can shed some light on this subject. First of all, there is a huge urban market in Toronto and the only local station serving us is FLOW93.5. This station lauched in 2001. Previoulsy Toronto did not have a RnB/HipHop station and we had WBLK from BUFFALO serving the community. Unfortunately, there service does a disgrace to our r&b/hiphop market. I personally do not listen to the service. WBLK provided and still provides newer playlists, Urban disc jockeys..and just a whole orginal flavor. Our wack station is an embrassment..and when I have friends visit from the U.S. I am quite ashamed. The whole KANYE WEST situation is that FLOW is tryin' to shield those BLACK men whom have white women from hearin KANYES opinion. My question is WHY?? If you are proud of your actions then why worry..about why KANYE has to say.. Is it offensive to hear the TRUTH.. Just goes to show..how pityful of a station they are!! | |

I thought the "white girl" line was uncalled for and insensitive to black women when I first heard the song.
I love the song, but I still don't like that ending quip "leave yo ass for a white girl." It's cutting. I know he's said he wanted to point out the social issue because it's so prevalent. It is prevalent. But he does it in a way that's almost taunting and mocking. | |

I've already explained why. I said it's cutting and insensitive. Like he's laughing at the black woman because a white woman took her man away.
I already stated it's prevalent, so obviously I'm agreeing the trend is a truth. But there are other angles to discussing this topic than mocking black women. I'm re-reading Malcolm X, and am dealing with this topic there too. And it's nauseating. Malcolm is talking about as a youth he would go to dances where the black men would "run over" black women to get to the few white women there and how the white women were seen as status symbols. I'm so tired of that psychologically-warped bullshit. | |

I take it as.. more of a reflection of Black Males. | |

You too, huh? On the topic, though - I agree. Kanye isn't pulling the ideas for his songs out of his ass. He often writes about common, everyday incidents and how people feel. I don't like his material, but never let it be said that he's not honest. He also like to write things that bait people into conversations. He likes the controversy. As far as the interview is concerned, the DJ was being a company man in trying to use subtle aggravation to piss of Kanye because he was dissing the station. Cooning is cooning and being Canadian doesn't excuse it. Kanye should have just went silent. Silence is the worst thing you can have on the air. [Edited 8/23/05 0:53am] | |
