Is Sly's 'Sex Machine' the same as the song James Brown sings?

It sounds completely different - it's an instrumental, apart from "We blew your mind" at the end". I've always wondered what the connection was, if any.

There is absolutely no connection between them. Sly's "Sex Machine" is a long, slow funky blues jam while James Brown's "Get up (I feel like being a) sex machine" is an uptempo, horn driven, dancy, funk tune

Yeah, I know, but Sly obviously knew the JB track, so I've always wondered if there is some kind of reference or relationship.
"We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

"That's becuase we're soulless auttomatons"

Actually Sly's "Sex Machine" was released in 1968, while James Brown's "Get Up I Feel Like Being A Sex Machine" was released in 1970.

Geez! I thought he was dead, too. Kinda weird and creepy, yet awesome that he's back. Maybe he and Prince can do a collaboration.

U and me both. Prince needs some company in getting the funk back into the mainstream again and what better than Sly.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
