Good ones - I love Cale's versions of Leaving It Up to You and Child's X-mas on this album. I saw Cale in 87 and he gave a very similar performance with session guitarist Chris Spedding.

This just arrived in the mail today - every bit as exciting and catchy as I remembered.

These have been on my playlist for the last week:

I really like TNT a lot - it's my favourite Tortoise album, and I'd say it's a strong place to start. It's pretty representative, too - if you don't like it, you probably aren't going to go for anything the band has done. Millions Now Living Will Never Die (the one immediately prior to TNT) would make a good starting point as well if you aren't able to find TNT.

Y'know, I really enjoyed the show I saw, but unfortunately I think it was slightly wasted on me. I was just 17 at the time and only knew Cale through the VU. I'd never heard any of his solo material, so every song I heard at that show was unfamiliar (except for his encore of Waiting for the Man). I really wish I could have seen him five years later, cuz I'm sure I would have appreciated it so much more.

What's happening in October? hmm And yes...a talkin' to! Me and Minneapolisgenius will join in on that talk! lol I thought I didn't like Steely Dan up until a year ago. I was just blindly, stupidly saying "Steely Dan? They're for old men!" Then I'd hear a song and say "Ooooh, I love this song." My boyfriend would remind me "Um, that's Steely Dan."

Anyway...currently listening to Big Love by Fleetwood Mac.
