Who do you pick?

I love Fiona...but I pick Tori.

If Fiona had as many albums and toured as much it'd be a toss up, but Tori wins based on breadth of great material. I haven't ever loved one single Tori album though as much as I loved When the Pawn...well, maybe Little Earthquakes.

Remember back in the day when Fiona dissed Tori by calling her the "poster girl for rape?" That was fucked up.

That's because Fiona is friggin' unstable. I really do love her music, but I've had to shoot with her before and her behavior patterns reminded me of someone who is self-sabotaging and isolationist. If her mood is not somewhere between manic or severely depressive you still just end up with a sour pussed-party poop...

Yes it was. Everyone who thinks Kate Bush invented playing the piano should look up Carole King and Laura Nyro.

Right you are, mon ami...I LUUUUUV me some Laura Nyro! And Carole too, and the very underated Carly Simon...there's a whole GENERATION of piano playing ladies who worked the confessional songwriting genre and paved the way for all these gen-X chicks, and I think it's a shame that a lot of the younger people, partcularly young women who want to carry on this legacy, don't even know who these women are!!! It's insane. I have singer songwriter friends here who are immensely talented, in the 28 year old range, where I had to break down and give them individual cd compilations of (PRE-1980's)female piano playin' poetic divas because THEY JUST DIDN'T KNOW...again, just nuts. But, they had to be schooled smile

I actually like Carole....I just like seeing Kate with that title. giggle

The difference is that Kate brought along a certain kookiness that the others didn't have.

I totally agree. But no one mentioned kookiness when crowning Kate queen of the piano.

And yeah, out of the two I'd choose Tori. Fiona's great but she can't touch Tori's early work.
