didn't he just put out a new album last christmas? i didn't think it was all that good, either. maybe he needs some time to charge his batteries and give us something great - it typically doesn't seem like such a hard task for him.

I'd give Real Gone some more time.

I must have listened to it about 50 times now, and it's grown on me hugely. Hoist that Rag is brilliant, (and sounds even better live wink ), Sins of my father, make it rain, don't go into that barn, trampled rose - all top rate Waits. For me, the highlights are 'Dead and Lovely' and 'Day after tomorrow'. Beautiful, magical tracks.

Well, go back in reverse order. Go listen to Alice & Blood Money on repeat for a while, and then work your way back. thumbs up! Or pick up some boots - there are some great ones around. nod

I'm going to have to try Real Gone again. I never got into it. Funny, I never got into the Mule Variations until Real Gone came out. Mule sounded great in comparison.

Real Gone was just difficult to listen to. I don't mind his voice, but the way it's recorded is unpleasant.

After many years of prefering his later stuff (Swordfish Trombones and on) I've been digging his 70's stuff (Small Change, Foreign Affairs)

His record label, Anti, is working on a box set called "ORPHANS" to be released sometime 4Q '05 or later. Assuming by the title that it's outtakes from his Anti years....

Rhino has had remastered (with TONS of bonus tracks) editions of the Elektra years ready to go for almost 2 years, with no action. Went so far, I believe, to release tracklists for Saturday Nite and Flowers... Haven't heard anything about this for over a year...
