I used to be mesmerised by her until I saw her in concert, umm, twice. Most boring, uneventful, uncharismatic performances I've ever seen. Hell, I saw Kim Wilde and she had more stage presence.

Started to go off her around the time of Music, although I loved most of that album. I still practically worship everything up until just after Erotica though.

Including Erotica, I love that record to bits.

When ROL came out I was so excited and I loved everything on it, but it's the Madonna album I listen to the least now. It's all played out and for some reason some of the songs I loved then bore me halfway through neutral It's kind of the only Madonna album I see as being "of its time", a bit like Alanis' Jagged Little Pill.

i know exactly what you mean, i feel the same exact way about that one. it just didn't age well even though it was so successful and good at the time.

you don't like bedtime stories? that's my second fave album after Erotica

Bedtime Stories? Umm, I'll say it's better than American Life but that's not really saying much neutral My all time favourite Madonna album is the debut!

'bedtime stories' is fantastic. it took me a while to "get" what they were going for with that one, but once i started to appreciate it, i really liked the vibe of the album overall. i'd say it's the very last of her good, classic albums, but she had to go and sneak "ray of light" in there...great songs on that album, though in my opinion the beginning of the end of "fun" madonna...

i miss her old voice as well. as technically nice as she sounded at the time and most of the time since, i really think the Evita vocal training ruined her. she's too slick now. i used to really feel passion in her vocals, even if they weren't as sweet. she could REALLY get a song across. seems like she traded that in for a nicer voice.

since evita, she sounds like she's trying too hard to sound "trained", and as a result, i think she sounds quivery and out-of-breath most of the time. she didn't have a great voice before, but it at least sounded immediate and genuine, and i never really thought about whether she sounded good or bad. her voice was just part of the song. these days, i can't even listen to her try to sing live. it's just way too painful. i'm not saying this just to be a madonna-hating bitch. there was a time when i was really in favor of her.

i've always thought of madonna as female. she's someone who, when she steps on stage, you can point at her and say, "that's madonna", and when she steps off stage, you know she's finished what she went out there to do. also, i strongly feel that she has recorded videos and albums, and while many people disagree, i won't waiver from this opinion. she has made videos. she has made albums. you cannot dispute this. i also think madonna is fertile. i realize my opinions may spark controversy, but i had to give my honest thoughts. tie me to the stake if you must, i can take it.

Wow! Such Controversial Statements!

Hmm, let me see. Madonna is more hype than anything else. She epitomizes the 80's sensibility that it's more fashion than function that gets you over. Mediocre dancer. Limited singer. Way too much attitude. World's Worst Actress. Arrogant in the extreme. Pretentious. Wanna-Be British. Camera Whore. Old. Trend-setter and spiritual godmother to all the women who followd in her footsteps: Janet, Paula, Britney, etc.

Oh yeah. Cult member. Phony in the extreme. Contemptuous of her audience.

And the World's Greatest Guitarist.

i love madonna, she is my favourite female performer of all time, but.....only 80s madonna. i still like her and some of her more modern songs, but its nothing compared to the 80's. she was sheer perfection and every thing a star should be, and plus her albums (even the filler) was brilliant and perfect pop songs, her filmclips and concerts were unbeatable (well besides by michael), but that (to me) ended after 1991. i still have all her albums, even american life as i still have a soft spot for her, but the only ones i can listen all the way through are her first 4 (thank god the immaculate collection came out when it did). i like quite a few songs off erotica, ray of light and music, but mostly hate bedtimes stories and american life. so i gues all i can say is 1982 - 1991 madonna KICKS FUCKING ARSE!

Or at least go start baiting on the stickie instead of starting a whole new thread...

lol

Nobody here can ever really ignore Madonna. She is probably the most-discussed artist in this forum.People actually start threads about her just to announce how much they hate her, lol. It's crazy.

For me,it's the complete opposite.I rarely listen to her first three albums.I prefer everything from 'Like A Prayer' on.Her 90s work is superior to her 80s stuff, imo.I like the way her music has matured and became more focused and "serious".

I'm not much of a fan but I consider her to be one the best pop stars ever. And Like A Prayer & Ray Of Light are two of the greatest albums made by a female pop music artist.

I'm not a fan, although I did like some of her early work. I also give her props for her longevity and being able to keep her fans around the world interested. I do feel she's a bit of a phony at times, but most celebrities are anyway. I'm glad she's stopped acting like a local whore and started acting like a woman. I guess marriage agrees with her. I do not think she has a good voice at all, but as we all know one doesn't have to sing well for people to buy their music (britney, j.lo, jessica, ashley etc, etc, etc). I guess she deserves her fame as much as anyone these days does.

Because it's a lot easier to post a negative rant than it is to form an opinion on something more positive. It's laziness and a bit of a lie, I'm sure. If I don't like something, I don't wanna waste my time even thinking about it. So, if you're spending a lot of time thinking/posting about something you must hold it in some high regard. It's kinda like that old elementary school playground bit of saying "I hate you!" to the boy or girl you liked the most.

I DID read the title, and it seemed to me like you just wanted another venue to rant on about yer dislike for Madonna. And, it we have a plethora of threads (not to mention a stickie) already to do just that, without starting another thread. Every Madonna thread (even the broken bones thread) is a place where folks post their opinions on M. that was all I was saying...

Borrowing from the 'opinions on mj' thread. what do u guys really think of Madonna? personally i cant stand Madge. her voice is avrage(on some of her early records, its quite annoying disbelief ) her so called "dancing" is mediocre at best and she relies heavily on sex and publicity stunts to sell her music( the kiss anyone?) her constant fits of re-invention are nothing more than PR scams to keep the public eye on her. and so what if she influenced some mindless fashion trends?? britney Spears also influenced fashion trends with that "belly out" stuff (whatevr its called), and now 50 cent is also influencing fashion trends. big deal, sure some of her songs are good and stuff but Madonna is great for people who want to be entertained but not to be taken seriously as an artist or like a muscian or anything. thats my opinion
