Opinions on Madonna

Borrowing from the 'opinions on mj' thread. what do u guys really think of Madonna? personally i cant stand Madge. her voice is avrage(on some of her early records, its quite annoying disbelief ) her so called "dancing" is mediocre at best and she relies heavily on sex and publicity stunts to sell her music( the kiss anyone?) her constant fits of re-invention are nothing more than PR scams to keep the public eye on her. and so what if she influenced some mindless fashion trends?? britney Spears also influenced fashion trends with that "belly out" stuff (whatevr its called), and now 50 cent is also influencing fashion trends. big deal, sure some of her songs are good and stuff but Madonna is great for people who want to be entertained but not to be taken seriously as an artist or like a muscian or anything. thats my opinion

Love her. I always imagine that if I had an older sister, she'd be just like Madonna.

Thats how I feel pretty much.

She is pure pop. I think new fans go back to her past albums and they dont know that alot of pop was better then hers. But, u gotta look in bargin bins for that. And if madonna's earlier albums were in bargin bins, would kids buy it?

My favorite performance artist of all time.

She takes a little from here, a little from there, uses all her high brow and avant garde influences from other artists, packages and re-designs it to appeal to the mainstream's sensibility. Absolutely brilliant. I think some of the non-hit songs she's had a hand in writing are beautiful melodies and some of the best pop lyrics.

And her best...her live stage shows. She puts on the best damn show of any modern performer IMO.

She's also a huge role model for people who feel ostracized or 'different' in society--be it for their race, gender, especially sexual preference--and tells them to work their asses off and to hell with what other people think. That's what I love the most about her.

And she makes the best pop music of the past 2 and 1/2 decades.

People who dismiss her as just PR are missing a lot IMO. People who are only good at manipulating the media stay in the spotlight no more than 2-3 years at most.

The only negative things:
--She seems like a bitch.
--Sometimes her live vocals are so strained/flat that they're almost embarassing.
--I don't care for the recent "Lady of the Manor" incarnation--BORING.
--She's now a cult member.
--It seems like she has never been to McDonald's or drank a Budweiser like normal folk in her entire life...she is so obsessed with that damn body!

Xavier, I don't know you really, but it seems like you spend a lot of time complaining about Madonna. If she's really that boring/lame/whatevs to you, why not just ignore her/threads about her?

Or at least go start baiting on the stickie instead of starting a whole new thread...

Nothing about her singing, dancing or music is above average but she is a very good performer. She is very good at spotting trends and stealing ideas and making them her own. Her videos and live performances give her music more relevance than it would otherwise receive in my opinion.

i've always thought of madonna as female. she's someone who, when she steps on stage, you can point at her and say, "that's madonna", and when she steps off stage, you know she's finished what she went out there to do. also, i strongly feel that she has recorded videos and albums, and while many people disagree, i won't waiver from this opinion. she has made videos. she has made albums. you cannot dispute this. i also think madonna is fertile. i realize my opinions may spark controversy, but i had to give my honest thoughts. tie me to the stake if you must, i can take it.

Love her... She's what I grew up on. I can attribute my love for music to Madonna. She may not be my favorite of all time anymore, but I'll always have time for her latest work.

Very excited for the new album.

She has some good music. She has some good music videos. However, I think that she is very overated. She was/is to some extent a horrible role model. She was a skank and still is somewhat and used that to sell her music.

yes, i have some. i'm sure a lot of people do. but honsetly, what's the point of sharing them? just like any other subject (mj, politics, prince, the record industry), no one here is interested in reading other people's opinions. they only want a thread to give theirs and an opportunity to hammer everyone else's views into the spitting image of their own.

love ya right back razz

but...
it just seems like an odd thing to say when this is a music message board. since she's primarily a musician...if you said her music was getting old or she been out too long or she should retire...i could dig that...but just "she's old" i guess i was wondering would you say the same thing about any of those other artists who are mostly older than her? would ya? wink

MY OPINION OF MADONNA

If Elvis and Marilyn Monroe had a baby-it'd be Madonna.

Madonna is a GREAT pop artist. Maybe the best ever, because she is essentially what pop is all about. The new thing, the next thing, the next trend, the moment, right here, right now and tommorrow.

Artistically, she is not a MUSICIAN, but her art is in her style. Sure, lots of people have done what she's done, but not as effectively or consistantly as Madonna. Not Janet, not Mariah, not J. Lo, not Cher, not Britney or Christina.

Madonna is very much like Elvis. More important cuturally, than musically. She broke down a lot of doors and barriers. Because she was a woman doing it.

Prince was more provocative and sexual, MJ sold more records, but Madonna was a woman. She grabbed he pop world by the throat and demanded attention she's had it for a long time now.

Her music, and this is her own fault, often gets overlooked. It's not the best ever, but it is successful enough to be the wheels to keep Madonna the icon rolling. Definitely some of the best POP music ever made.

I think without a doubt she we'll be remembered as an ICON for the ages. Not as a musical artist, but as someone of cultural importance.

All that being said, I'm not even a huge MAdonna fan. However, you can't deny her impact on the world.
