I don't care what anyone says, the most Soulful Voice ever possessed by a white person in the history of the world belongs to Willie Nelson.

Has anyone mentioned Bobby Caldwell or Lewis Taylor or even Bozz Scaggs? I will do today what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't.

You're all lame. ----- No you are the one that does not understand the difference. Some people can sign with a lot of soul (emotion) and some people are just soulful. Kate Bush has a lot of emotion in her voice but, she is not a soul singer. Same with Tori, Stevie, and Joni.

If you read my post carefully, you'll see that I favor "Karma Chameleon" over anything else Boy George has sung because I view it at his best vocal performance on a record. I'm familiar with his work enough to have an opinion that compared to most of the singers mentioned here, I dont think Boy George's name should uttered. Like I said, Boy George sounded horrible live and that's a true singer's test. He aint DJing now for nothin'.....! His voice is not top ten material; believing otherwise suggests you either have bad taste or cannot judge without being objective. ----- His voice sounds great on the CC cd's. I don't know what he sounded like in concert. He performed a song called "Victims" that is really great.

Kate Bush has a lot of emotion in her voice but, she is not a soul singer. Same with Tori, Stevie, and Joni. It's not that I don't understand, it's simply that soulful is soulful to me. Just because R&B is considered soul music shouldn't mean that soulful singers who aren't rooted in that genre should be overlooked, as they most often are. I'm just difficult, that's all. Still, I'll take substance over style anyday.

I don't think every peformer has to write songs about world peace or other heavy issues to give their music substance. Love songs can have substance to and being able to put the song over helps. I can't stand Stevie Nicks as a singer but, I think she is a great song writer but, sounding like a sick cat just does not do it for me and definitely is not soul music. Being able to carry a tune is very important with soul music. Some people have it and some people don't.

I mean simply that I'd take genuine emotion over a great voice.

2 - Boy George = Has that smooth soul voice 3 - Joss Stone = Teena-like skills 4 - Michael McDonald = Rough and smooth at the same time 5 - George Michael = He and Boy George would be a cool duet 6 - Annie Lennox = Straight outta Motown! 7 - Darryl Hall = Fiery smooth 8 - Taylor Dayne = Patti-esque 9 - Lisa Stansfield = Nice R&B voice 10 - Sting = Mr. Do-It-All Can't really argue with this list, but I would replace Annie Lennox and Sting with Boz Scaggs and Jay Kay of Jamiroquai Honorable mention would go Remy Shand.
