WHO's Teena Marie? Whoah! Teena Marie is American R&B singer/musician/producer that earned her stripes under the tutelage of funkmistro Rick James. Very powerful voice, everyone who 1st heard her thought IMMEDIATELY she was Black. Great control and pitch. One of the best voices of all time. "But what of black women? . . . Bob Seger and Todd Rundgren (sorry tA) Everyone on NWF's list but JayKay, Rick Astley, and the cat from Simply Red Chris Robinson and Chris Cornell (not dissing them chuckaducci, but what they do isn't "blue-eyed soul," even IF they sing with "soul") Again, this has nothing to do with the merits of each artist, each of whom I respect to various degress, but the stylings of their work. Just an opinion, but make your case, I'm not "dug in." I hear you and there's nothing to be sorry about. I'll just try and make a case for my own choices with a few examples for each. Greg Allman: It's Not My Cross to Bear Whipping Post Don't Keep Me Wonderin' Midnight Rider Bob Seger: The Fire Down Below Her Strut Katmandu Todd Rundgren: The Want of a Nail Parallel Lines ~ gotta stop There are so many for Todd that i'll just say that if Daryl Hall stays on the list, Todd's gotta stay. So many of his songs have a more cerebral H&O vibe. As for NWF's choices , i'll be giving him a lesson in SOUL in a few weeks. tA France countdown - T-Minus 5 days and counting. I guess you never heard him sing
The same logic can be applied to you too, sir Crucial Experience. When I think of soulful voices, I think of throaty or elastic voices that either pipe, belt or make listeners swoon. Boy George has a reed thin warble for a voice...have you heard him sing live? He's atrocious!

NWF: No need to resort to insults, friend. Rod Stewart a soul singer? Nick Rhodes from freakin' Duran Duran a soul singer? Robert Plant (whom many accuse of grand larceny from bluesmen) as soul singer?
Hell no! The fact that they sing with soul don't make them a soul singer. That doesn't mean they SUCK. It just means they're no more a soul singer than Wynton Marsalis is a rock musician. Buckley's work was beautiful and moving. "Everybody Here Wants You" is indeed a classic record in the soul tradition (IMHO, ranks right up there with "Adore" as one of the best ballads of the last 20 years or so). Crucial, this is a joke, right? Then what is this thread about? Soul singers or singers who are singing "soul music"? There is a difference.
This thread is entitled (in your very own words): TOP 10 BEST BLUE-EYED SOUL VOICES. Then you listed: 2 - Boy George = Has that smooth soul voice Now because I've said that Boy George, possessor of a reed thin warble who sang pop music, doesnt have a soulful voice and was horrible live, you're saying instead No. SOUL meaning SOUL MUSIC, not SINGING FROM THE SOUL. For Whom the Bell Tolls Omega Man Blue Island Haunted House Well, US radio pretty much tuned them out after 1980. Like Barry once said, most radio wouldn't even listen to their stuff when sent, nevermind actually play it. A shame 'cos many of their later singles were equally as good as their 60s & 70s work. And sometimes better. U guys made me dig up that album again. I dont mind "for whom the bell tolls", but stuff as excellently produced as " anything for you" is alot better.
