and by the way, if MTV is the biggest disappointment in your life so far, then I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you're in for a very rude awakening.

I used to love MTV as a kid when it was coming out. It was great to see new videos from Michael, Madonna, Whitney, Janet, Cyndi, Bruce and of course the one and only Prince. Shows like Remote Control was great. I'll even say that The Real World when it came out in 1992 was the bomb (the best season IMO).

That said MTV is total bullshit today. Everything that's been said about the station is how I feel. I still watch from time to time but I don't get that fun feeling that I had when I was 10 and I don't think my age today has anything to do with it. It bothers me that there's hardly any music and nothing but silly pointless shows that have nothing to do with music. I'm down with original programming but why can't the people of MTV, VH1 and BET do shows that have to do with music and make it hip? They could do it but that would involve using their brains.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I first started watching MTV in the spring of 1982,when it was less than a year old.Back then,it was truly all about the music. They would show music videos 24 hours a day! Sometimes, they would show entire concerts. There were no stupid reality shows,no silly Jessica and Nick nonsense, etc. But I guess since today's music has declined,it makes sense that MTV would decline as well. It's so sad.

what happened to the videos? nobody watches them. bitch and moan all you want, but they have to pay the bills, and they can't do it by just showing videos. the shows are what bring in the revenue.

then why do they continue to call it "MTV (Music Television)"? lol

Who made the decision that, hang on, well create more channels to put the music on and well hijack MTV!
What a stupid idea. Whay didnt they just create reality tv?

Coincidentally, is it just me or does anyone else refer to all music channels as "MTV?!"

I understand that MTV has to get soem ratings and pay the bills, but do they have to put on this non-musical garbage 23 out of 24 hours a day? I could care less about that "Room Raiders," "Viva Le Bam," "Date My Mom," and that other crap. Do they have to show all those reruns around the clock? At least play some music; they can still save the late afternoon and prime time for their reality show crap.

VH1, on the other hand, while they still play some music, is trying to hard to become the E! channel. Some of their shows are clever at times, but it's just way too fluffy at others. What's really sad is that, in order to see music these days, you have to buy the extended cable packages at $50 to $100 a month just to get stations like MTV Hits (all music), MTV Jams, VH1 Classic, VH1 Soul, and VH1 Megaghits. I already pay $40 a month just for basic cable, and I get a bunch of useless religious channels I never watch. I know MTV2 was supposed to be all music at one time, but even that has those crappy shows infringing on its timeslots.

BTW, VH1 is supposed to stand for Video Hits One. If VH1 has all of these other channels (VH1 Classic, VH1 Country, VH1 Soul, VH1 Megahits), shouldn't they really be called VH2, VH3, VH4, etc?

The problem did not start with MTV as much as it started with the music industry as a whole, when they diverted the public's attention from listening to music to viewing music. Videos are full of sex appeal not talent.

I've never heard anyone say one good thing about MTV these days, so who in the hell is watching this kind of programming??

VH-1 may as well call themselves The Countdown Channel because thats pretty much all they show. The "I Love the 80's" thing was cute for like a month. Now every has-been in the history of media is coming out of the woodwork to be on these shows, and chime in with their own witty 2 cents.

I guess teenagers must watch it a lot, but they probably make enough money not to have to care who does!

It's a bit sad when the viewers know more about music than the people who are presenting it - sorry, I meant reading the autocue.

brand recognition. same reason CBS is still CBS, even though the corporation that was the "C" in its name no longer owns it.

Co-sign!!!!

I visited the MuchMusic site yesterday out of the blue. I swear a single tear ran down my face.

As for MTV: What Happened to show like 120 minutes and AMP of just showing random videos from like 2yrs ago mixed in with the new stuff. And I serously think MTV2 is even worse with shows like Wondershozen and multiple repeats of pimp my ride. MTV2 used to be the stuff back when Jancee Dunn and Booker was hosting it and the would show nothing but videos all day, and they even had a request hour...Now every ting is aimed towards the TRL crowd. And TRL is kinda dated anyway.
