With no major releases coming anytime soon (and frankly, with record companies being bored as hell with what is being released), I don't see those numbers going up.

With no major releases coming anytime soon (and frankly, with record companies being bored as hell with what is being released), I don't see those numbers going up. Mid to late summer is traditionally one of the slowest periods of the year for album sales, especially July and August. Most of the fun summer jams have to be released in April or May in order for them to break out for summer airplay. Plus, the record companies hold off on the fall releases until late September so that they can be considered for Grammy nominations. After that, it gears up for the Christmas season, which is when up to 50% of all albums released during the year are sold. (Actually, it may be higher than that; I haven't had much time to research this.) That's why most of the record companies big-name artists release their albums from September to November. Considering that album sales in general have been steadily declining since the year 2000, and that Mariah Carey has had a horrible past few years and was written off by the record companies, I'm really surprised at the strength of her album sales to this point. This is definitely one of her stronger albums to date. Nevertheless, the quality of albums overall this year have been rather lackluster, especially on the hip hop and R&B side. The rock albums have been slightly better, but they are still in a sales slump compared to hip hop/R&B.

There are number of reasons:- most pppl r goin digital but that doesnt mean that ppl r buyin albums on itunes.
itunes says most of its sales r sold as single (98%) ppl r just buyin singles and album sales r fading. The sales compared to last year r down 8.2% and almost down 50% since 2000 itunes it seems is contributing to album slump. 728huey said: VinnyM27 said: BoOTyLiCioUs said:
