Ahem...as official Hootie historian I must clarify this. There is no one in the band actually named Hootie. The lead singer is Darius Rucker, not hootie as many call him. Subsequently, the band members are not the "blowfish" either. Hootie and the Blowfish derived from two roommates of the guys as they were attending the University of South Carolina and playing local bars and frat parties before they hit it big. Hootie was a guy with big eyes and blowfish was a guy that had big cheeks. The band knew of another band in town called Tootie and the Jones and they liked the combination of Hootie and the Blowfish so there you go.

Scoff if you want people but my South Carolina peeps sold 14 million copies of that debut album of theirs. Hootie rules!
