Teena Marie, Lovergirl video. Vh1 Classic just played the video. Tell me the video doesn't cop a lot from Prince? Her guitarist even looks like Prince, a bit.
The stage and the moves are a lot like the little fucker. But. that was her one good song. All you others say Hell Yea!!

oky, admit it was not like one of her classic funk jams... but it still was slammin... and compared to billions of other lame attempts still one of the best "crossover" songs the 80s produced Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

I'm not dismissing it because it's not a funk tune - my musical tastes go far beyond that. I just think it's rather generic, especially that guitar part.

Lovergirl has her on stage live, she in in blue dungarees and a sliky blue shirt. Her back up band look kinda Princey...very 80's. The stage is kinda dark.. a la 1999. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I've always thought that single and that video was Teena's little tribute to the mini-man.

I haven't seen that video since it was popular and, even back then, I only saw it once on "Night Tracks". Andy is a four letter word.

I'm fortunate because I have mostly all of Teena's videos & tv appearance, but I'm sure there are more tv appearances that I haven't gotten my hands on yet...I'm still searching. As far as I know, Teena's made videos for "Lovergirl", "Robbery", "Lips 2 find U", "Work It"(one of my favs), "Here's Looking At You", "Warm As Momma's Oven"(another one of my favs) "A Rose By Any Other Name"(another one of my favs). She also appeared in the "King Dream Holiday" video, Rappers LA Nash's "Ain't A Damn Thing Change" video & Afu-Ra's "Open". There may be more that I don't know about, but like I said I'm still searching. Not a video, but I have her appearance on the "Beverly Hillbillies as the tap-dancing 8-year-old. She was just so tiny that she only looked like she was about 4-yrs-old. She was absolutely ADORABLE! She went by the name Tina Brockert when she started her career as a child actress.
Here's some stills from some of the videos & tv shows that I have. I'll will post more when I have time to do so. Maybe the one of her on the "Beverly Hillbillies". Videos "Lovergirl" "Work It" TV Appearances Singing "OOO LA LA LA" on Soul Train [Edited 8/13/05 20:17pm]

Speaking of Teena's guitarist in the "Lovergirl" video his name is Nikki Slikk. He was a member of her group, Ozone. She had gotten them a record deal with Motown, Gordy label & they released a few albums. I'm sure y'all remember "Gigolette" because that was the jam...It was hot! And they were also her tour band during the 80's, and they could really funk it up! I heard that Teena & Ozone TORE IT UP when she opened up for Prince's on the "Dirty Mind" tour in '81. I heard that Prince really felt the heat! Teena and Nikki were really really close. They may have been an item back in da day. Her first bass player, Allen McGrier was a member of Ozone as well and he's back touring with her again this year. Nikki and Allen grew up together in Detroit.

i've never seen any surprisingly,Teena didn't make too many videos even though she had alot of hits.I can't recall seeing any videos from her Motown years. These are the only videos I've seen by her... "Robbery" (1983) "Lovergirl" (1984) "Lips To Find You" (1986) (many people think Prince co-wrote this song) "Work It" (1988) "Here's Looking At You" (1990) there's a video for her latest single "A Rose By Any Name" but I've never seen it

It's nothing special, really. They have lots of videos by lots of artists (including most of Prince's videos), but this is the only Teena Marie video they have. [Edited 8/15/05 5:41am]

Although I love Teena to death, I never dug this song. Ever. I think it's cheesy and I agree with Rip, she was trying to hard to hit the pop market. Far from her best.
