I agree, whatever Happens is a fine song. That Butterflies & Speechless are the only tracks that caught my ear off Invincible. the rest are not good. I know a lot of MJ fans big this album up, but Ive tried to get into and I cant.

And as it's a Blood On The Dance Floor thread, I recently added a few tracks to make it a full length album of studio cuts:

Blood On The Dance Floor
Morphine
Superfly Sister
Ghosts
Is It Scary
Streetwalker
Monkey Business
Someone Put Your Hand Out
The Way You Love Me
We've Had Enough

Beats the remixes, anyway. smile

My second fave of his after Off The Wall. Yes, honestly. And I'm not going to apologize. smile

i have to agree, i think the 5 songs on Blood on the Dancefloor showed more promise than most of the stuff on Invincible. At least those five songs were from Michael. I cried when i bought Invincible coz i thought the first three tracks were awful. In fact to begin with i only really liked Speechless, YRMW, Break of Dawn, and Whatever Happens. Hope MJ learns from his mistakes on this one

"Speechless" is just another sap-fest from him, as far as I'm concerned, complete with the children's choirs and ripoff vocal line from "You Are Not Alone". Can't see why it's so well-liked in this thread. smile

the BOTDF songs are pretty good. ironically, it's the title track/lead single that's the weakest of the 5. sounds like a Dangerous outtake. like a slightly better sibling of "She Drives Me Wild" that wants to be "Smooth Criminal" but has the misfortune of have some stale, dated Teddy Riley production.

anyway, the other 4 are great (even if "Superfly Sister" sounds a little corny).

a few weeks ago, i listened to "Morphine" for the first time in YEARS. it's even creepier now, considering his recent tribulations. i keep thinking he's going to start talking about "jesus juice" during the dreamy/tinkly parts.

EXACTLY. It ruins the effect the song COULD have had.

U notice the lyrics of "blood on the dancefloor" are about aids? (iam gonna have to play this album now cool ). Ur right, it did sound dated for 1997, and teddy didn't want MJ to release it for that reason. It is a dangerous outtake.

Good god "superfly sister" is so raw and demo like. I love it. Byran loren is a good producer. Love the adlibs (all the lyrics are adlibs I reckon? lol )
"superfly sister" is one of my all time fav MJ songs.

The "history" remix by tony moran is awesome.

I agree with you guys. I love Whatever Happens but haven't played it in so long I forgot that he does indeed sound like he has a cold and I remember thinking when I first got the CD how could they not re-record the song???

Invincible was also the album that made me realize I couldn't really listen to him sing love songs anymore. While I like the songs overall something about him singing them just doesn't do it for me. It just sort of seems hollow.

You summed up my thoughts EXACTLY! This is why I dismiss "Whatever Happens".

Of course, I still love "Butterflies". It is good enough that I can get past my aversion to MJ ballads.

But that's why I LOVE Whatever Happens. When he's singing in the third person telling a story, it's far more effective.

Blood On The Dance Floor...
My second favorite Michael Jackson release behind HIStory as number one.
Wait wait wait..Redo

The Ultimate Collection - Number One
HIStory - Number Two
Blood On The Dance Floor - Number Three

But yeah Blood On The Dance Floor is great as far as new songs go. I know what people mean when they say they wish they could have had a whole album of that mood and feeling. It was some of Michael's deepest work if you ask me, besides HIStory (disc 2.)

I love the album and the cover kicks serious ass! I thought the Dangerous painting was awesome but this cover was awesome times ten! biggrin

it is kind of weird when you listen to Invincible, and hear him singing old-fashioned love songs. probably because it had become such a rarity. i prefer it, by far, to the other 2 songs that seem to have overtaken his albums: the "save the world" song and the "it sucks to be me" song. and even if it is kind of weird, when you think about him singing them, he is a master at it. those are the best songs on the album.
