Ellie said: What? Randy was the one who wrote the music to 'Shake Your Body'. Michael did the lyric I think, but Randy came up with the piano hook.
You're right about We Are The World though, Michael's part on that was a lot more than Lionel Richie. Shame the song is so terrible. [Edited 8/16/05 11:16am] Actually the song is awesome, which explains the CD selling so well, the DVD coming out many years later with a making of complilation.

It's not safe to say, if you listen to the material that Randy has written and produced(and played) on his own, particularly his solo album...there's a consistency to it, enough to say that he did his share of the co-writing...If You look at "One More Chance", writen by Randy himself, "Time Waits For No One", written by Randy Jackson and Jackie Jackson, and "Give It Up", written by Michael Jackson and Randy Jackson...in some of their most melodic material, Randy is the common denominator... btw, Billboard magazine raved about the Randy and the Gypsys album when it was released, but also noted (correctly), that it would probably be ignored in all the attention shining on Janet and Michael at the time...it does have a few New Jack-isms which don't date that well, but there's no denying the soulful songwriting, especially on tunes like "The Love We Almost Had", "I Can't Wait", "Not Because Of Me" and "Need You", all comparable to Jacksons tracks like "One More Chance" and "Give It Up"... ... [Edited 8/16/05 10:46am] Just what I was thinking...there are actually quite a few songs that Randy wrote by himself or co-wrote with someone else than MJ..thus it is safe to say Randy is a talanted songwriter and composer
