Paula Abdul cleared; Ellen to host Emmys

Television divas Paula Abdul and Ellen DeGeneres had reason to celebrate this weekend after two separate decisions about their future on the small screen.

Abdul, 43, still has a job after accusations that the American Idol judge had an affair with finalist Corey Clark. Fox and Idol producers announced Friday that a 3½-month investigation found insufficient evidence to support Clark's claims that he and Abdul were lovers or that she coached him on his show performances.

"I'm grateful this ordeal is over, and I'm so looking forward to getting back to the job I love," Abdul said in a statement. "Once again, I thank my fans from throughout the world for their undying love and support."

The former L.A. Lakers cheerleader and pop singer acknowledged sharing phone calls with Clark during the second season of competition. But the inquiry could not resolve the pair's wildly different he said/she said accounts of the relationship.

"We are confident that none of these communications had any impact on the outcome of the competition," the investigators said in a statement. Clark was kicked off the show for failing to reveal a prior arrest.

Because of the controversy, producers are implementing "an enhanced non-fraternization policy" to prevent incidents that appear to call into question relationships between contestants, judges and other Idol employees.

Clark, 25, first aired his claims on a much-hyped May episode of ABC's Primetime Live. He also wrote a tell-all e-book and recorded a song about the alleged relationship titled Paulatics.

Auditions for Idol's fifth season begin Thursday in San Francisco.
