Warners/Rhino has just released "The Ultimate Micheal McDonald" and there seems to be at least a light promotional push for it, probably due to the success of "Motown". I bought "Motown" because of the hype and wasn't overly impressed. Now this collection, which features one of the better tracks from "Motown" with his hit cover of "Ain't No Mountian High Enough" showcases his pleasant upbeat pop rock with a heavy dose of keyboards. I wouldn't say that he is one of my favorites, but he is good. I don't think I've ever seen his name mentioned here. What are people's thoughts on his solo work along with his Doobie input.

I've always Loved Mike, although I wasn't too crazy about all the Motown stuff, either. I love his original stuff though, as well as stuff he did with the Doobies, and background vocal work with Steely Dan, Chistopher Cross, Kenny Loggins, etc.



His 1993 album 'Blink of An Eye' is my favorite, a Funky, soulful all-star affair that the public slept on, unfortunately.....

I always liked him--with and without the Doobies and most of his collaborative efforts. I bought the Motown album also but only for 1 or 2 songs that I liked. I'll probably get The Ultimate collection too. My life's soundtrack is not complete without some Michael McDonald.

I just listened to "The Ulitmate Collection" the entire way through and while the first half is full of really good well known tracks, the second half is a bit lack luster with lesser known filler. The only standout there is "No Love To Be Found" because of the great female vocals.

Thumbs up to Monsieur McDonald....

I'm in no rush for the Motown covers' but i got love for the Mickey Mac.

anyhoo..so, i almost freaked out cause it said, mcdonalds $8.99..i was gonna bitch out the cashier for a second there cause i thought he rang me up for two value meals or something...

Michael's got some serious soul.. but for the ultimate MM collection, buy the Doobie's "Minute By Minute" Grammy winning album with some jazz/funky keyboard jams.. His voice is incredible. I saw him with Hall and Oates last year, and he simply killed "You Are Everything" and "It Keeps You Runnin." I don't like most of his pop 80's hits, but I guess he had to make a living. His background vocals on Stelly Dan's "Aja" album also make the soul cut.
