Baatin and J Dilla to reunite with Slum Village!

Great news from mvremix.com interview with Elzhi of Slum Village. He says that Baatin will be reuniting with the band for an album called Four Horsemen! This is AWESOME news!

http://www.mvremix.com/ur...hi05.shtml

MVRemix: I recently read an interview with T3 and he said that everyone (Dilla & Baatin) is going to reunite again for a Slum Village album in the future. Is that true?

Elzhi: Yeah, it is, but I can't tell you when until everybody's head and heart is in the right place. But as well as things are going for Slum Village, Jay-Dee is doing his thing too. He is in the studio with D'Angelo right now and is doing his thing. Baatin got his solo album coming out. So everybody got their own thing going on, but we are trying to sit down and do this Four Horsemen project. We are also working on a Slum Village movie, and if it was a perfect world and it was up to me, the soundtrack to the movie would actually be the Four Horsemen album. That is how I want to do it, but its not a perfect world, so I can't really tell you when its going down. But I can tell you when the time is right it will go down. Everybody wants to do it, but everybody is busy at the moment.

Great news! SV hasn't been quite the same since that change.

I agree. I couldnt believe that T3 and Elzhi were going to go on as a duo. It just wasnt the same. I could take Dilla not being there for a while but when Baatin was kicked out of the group, it changed the whole dynamic.

Who else can spit an entire verse in Arabic and make it flow the way Baatin does? He is pure brilliance!

For those who arent hip to SV, heres a quick overview:

Rising from the rugged streets and rich musical tapestry of Detroit, Slum Village is poised to carry on the old-school, funk, and soul-filled hip-hop torch of genre pioneers

A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and the Pharcyde. Growing up in the Conant Garden neighborhood of Detroit and forming during high-school days at Detroit's Pershing High School, MCs Baatin, Jay Dee, and T3 quickly garnered praise and recognition in the local underground scene. In the mid-'90s, Jay Dee became part of the hip-hop elite as a member of the Ummah, the production team responsible for multiple hits by Q-Tip, A Tribe Called Quest, D'Angelo, the Pharcyde, De La Soul, and Common, as well as remixes for Janet Jackson and Brand New Heavies. In 1998, Slum Village gained further recognition as an opening act for A Tribe Called Quest's farewell tour. Two years later, after some record-industry politics, the group released Fantastic, Vol. 2, an album featuring appearances from D'Angelo, Q-Tip and DJ Jazzy Jeff. For fans with an ear to the underground and a few questions concerning the whereabouts of Fantastic, Vol. 1, the trio assumed an alias (J-88) to release Best Kept Secret.

Two more years went by before the group was heard from, but "Tainted" broke their silence in the summer of 2002 to become a growing hit on MTV2. The album that followed, Trinity (Past, Present and Future), boasted fewer guest appearances and a well-rounded combination of the first album's rough-and-tumble productions with the second album's soulful vibe. The record also featured Jay Dee in a reduced role, with new member Elzhi picking up the slack. Later that year, Slum Village released Dirty District, a compilation of Detroit MCs produced by T3 and compatriot RJ Rice. By the time recording began for their fourth proper album, Baatin was gone from the lineup, a victim of schizophrenia that briefly incapacitated him (he later mounted a solo career). T3 and Elzhi picked up the slack by inviting high-profile guests including Dirt McGirt and Kanye West, and Capitol released the results, Detroit Deli (A Taste of Detroit), in June 2004.

As much as I'd like all four of them to collaborate on the entire album, I get the feeling they'll only appear together on one or two tracks.

This is gonna be sick! I had the opportunity to check out SV when they came to Dallas with Floetry and India Arie. They tore it up, however it was interesting to notice that the crowd wasn't really feeling them.
FYI: There is a group out of Waco called "Strange Fruit Project". They're on the same vibe as SV. Check it out on cdbaby.com.

Two members of The Pharcyde (Booty Brown and Imani) released Humboldt Beginnings ealier this year. It would be cool if they all could get back together and release something. I dont think thats likely to happen though.
