Nobody talks about this forgotten 70's group anymore. They had some of the best music when they were still making music.
Who else remembers this group?

War is definitely for the grown and sexy. Some of my favorite songs are: Spin That Wine, Cisco Kid, Slipping Into Darkness, Me & Baby Brother, You Got The Power, Low Rider, All Day Music and my all time favorite The World Is A Ghetto.

War had great songs in the 1970s such as "Low Rider", "Galaxy 2000", "Me And Baby Brother", "Why Can't We Be Friends", etc. They also had the jams "You Got The Power" and "Outlaw" in 1982.

In the mid 1990s, they had a decent album called "Peace Sign". Just as all the other funk groups that made decent album attempts in the 1990s without selling out to hip hop, the dead ass radio stations would not play any of the songs.

This is one of many groups that i love. In turn they give us that love back with great music. Lee Oskar, Lonnie Jordan, PaPa Dee, D.D., man i can say i had the pleasure of seeing them live.

Did you ever hear them talk about how Bob Marley ripped off "Slipping Into Darkness" for "Get Up Stand Up"?

Haven't heard them in a while. They are one of my quinessential summer bands. I guess I'll have to take out the Anthology CD and give that a spin or two. I just love that song "All Day Music".

The two songs do sound a little bit alike but, which one was written first is the question. I once read that Bob wrote most of his music ten years before he got a recording contract.

I was OBSESSED with this group back in Junior High School (which was strange considering that it was in the early 90's). They was my shiznite! I even saw them live that summer in 1994 during their reunion tour. It was a real good time to get into them, in fact the timing was perfect. I even got a couple of autographs from them (I don't know where they are now ). But yeah, they were great. They managed to mix Funk, Pop, Jazz, Latin, and R&B and create their sound.

Interestingly enough, I got all my friends into this group so they could get away from all that Gangsta Rap and shit that was plaguing the airwaves at the time. You could say that I had an impact on their musical tastes. By the end of 1994, I had them all singing "Why can't we be friends/Why can't we be friends....."

Saw these guys 2 years ago at Cherry Festival here ...just the way I remember them from the old days too...was a great show and they announced they were recording the show for a new cd...still haven't seen the new cd...but...was a great show...

This is why I say the 70's was THE decade for music. War was/is the shit my all time favorite song by them is City Country City

It's all about Summer and Why Can't We Be Friends for me.
