Original Sinsuality Amber Waves China Goodbye Pisces Spark Way Down Virginia Rattlesnakes People Are Strange (The Doors cover) We Belong (Pat Benatar cover) Sweet Dreams Doughnut Song Black-Dove (January) God/Running Up That Hill The Beekeeper 1st Encore Here. In My Head Sweet The Sting 2nd Encore 1000 Oceans Putting The Damage On From Matt Page: Tonight's show was really fantastic, and quite unique in many ways. Tori obviously had been reading up on the history, politics and scandals of the city prior to the show. San Diego experienced some kind of scandal involving the deputy mayor accepting a bribe and eventually having to resign. The bribe had to do with revoking a "no touching" rule that was in place for area strip clubs. Tori seemed to tailor her set list at times to this scandal! After Amber Waves, which fits right into the above, Tori mentioned this scandal and said she is behind the strippers. She knows what they are going through, because she has to deal with record companies. Tori did a brief but beautiful improv before Spark. It had lyrics something like, "She's out there somewhere, she's behind the moon. I hope she's happy. I hope she's found her spark." It was gorgeous. Way Down, which is VERY rare at Tori shows, came out tonight, and was a debut for this tour. Tori performed a long piano intro which was amazing. Tori's version of Virginia was one of the strongest of the tour. Her cover of We Belong was also exceptionally strong, and she debuted The Doors cover. Matt also stated that this was one of the strongest second half of the show that he has seen this year. During Sweet Dreams, Tori at one point said, "No touchy", which was cute and an obvious reference to the scandal mentioned above. Tori deviated twice from her written set list. She was supposed to do Marys Of The Sea instead of Sweet The Sting, and was supposed to perform Pretty Good Year instead of 1000 Oceans. That looks fantastic! I hope it's one of the official releases. How was your night Vina?

I bought a disposable camera and took some pics. Hope they come out well! I had no idea we were all supposed to rush the stage after The Beekeeper. The highlights for me were: Amber Waves Spark Way Down People Are Strange (The Doors cover) We Belong (Pat Benatar cover) Sweet Dreams Doughnut Song God/Running Up That Hill Sweet The Sting Putting The Damage On I wanted her to do We Belong, Sweet Dreams and Sweet the Sting, Doughnut Song and Putting the Damage On, so that was cool. Spark was awesome and the intro was beautiful. Way Down was a nice surprise, as was People Are Strange. During her intro to that she called on "The Lizard King." I had the pleasure of sitting next to a very nice (and handsome) male.

I tried to drive by the venue on my lunch hour and it was really an ordeal to get to the venue. I didn't have enough time to park and walk for who knows how long... I've never been there so I would have been lost. We got shuttled in to the venue from blocks away for the show. I'm gonna see if my friend wants to go for it in LA on Saturday. The shows I've seen are: Dew Drop Inn Little Amsterdam was ORGASMIC at this show. She was pounding on the piano with her fist and held one of the longest notes I've ever heard her sing. The energy of that song was AMAZING. Plugged I loved this show. I think Caton was still in the band at that time. She mentioned the "Magic in the trees" in that venue. It's beautiful and I can't wait to see her there again on Saturday! Pandora was sublime. 5-1/2 Weeks I remember trembling with excitement throughout the show. Strange Little Tour Winter made me cry. It was such a wonderful surprise to hear Graveyard and that went into Tear In Your Hand. Wow. I have an mp3 of that. Just beautiful. On Scarlets Walk Lotta Pianos Professional Widow about gave me an orgasm. Pancake was awesome. Space Dog was wayyyyy groovy. People were up and dancing. Silent All these Years made me cry. It just made so much sense for me at that time and her energy was amazing on it that night. Sooooo which is my fave? I think it's a tie between Lotta Pianos and Scarlet's Walk. Last night she was a bit somber, although she got sexy during Sweet Dreams and People Are Strange. I like her more with a band though. I look forward to hearing more songs on Saturday!

You've had awesome Tori experiences Vina. Maybe you'll get more of your list on Saturday (I would die for Purple People). We were second row center in Toronto and she was drooling all over the place. Seeing her so close made it an incredible show. I keep saying it but I was in a trance for most of it ~ especially Beekeeper. Thanks for the review! Music is the language of the spirit. I got to LA at the tail end of the Meet N Greet. So I wasn't able to get my picture with her, but I did take some pics of her.
There are more here: http://vinablue.net/galle...me=album02 Her hair is so beautiful... The setlist... Original Sinsuality Little Amsterdam A Sorta Fairytale Jamaica Inn Carbon Winter God/Running Up That hill Black (Pearl Jam cover) Nights In White Satin (Moody Blues cover) Little Earthquakes Barons Of Suburbia Playboy Mommy The Beekeeper 1st Encore Cars And Guitars Cooling 2nd Encore Toast Original Sinsuality was BEAUTIFUL. I teared up. There was more emotion in her voice because it was the last show. Somehow I think being a little further back is better for me. I like being able to get the impact of the whole stage and to see part of the audience. The Greek Theater has screens on the sides of the stage so you can see her upclose most of the time, even when she turns around to play the organs. There were some AMAZING shots of her getting down on both. She looked possessed. She alot more double action than she did in San Diego. It was also cool to see her expresions clearly during certain songs. You could see her bearly keeping her composure when she talked about it being the last show and how much she will miss us. Little Amsterdam made my night. There was an amazing improv before Carbon. Winter was nice, but a little long... we've heard this song sooo many times. God/RUTH was gorgeous again. Black was powerful. A really great cover. The Moody Blues cover didn't do much for me. Little Earthquakes was great. Barons of Suburbia was killer at the end. "She is risen..." It kinda reminded me of the energy in Little Amsterdam. Playboy Mommy was really sweet. The Beekeeper doesn't do much for me and you know it's the last song and everyone in the front is on their marks, waiting to rush the stage, which creates an odd tension in the song. Cars and Guitars was groovy. She did the "cha-chicka-cha" stuff. Cooling was cool. I thought of Gangsta during it. When she came back for the secong encore she metioned that she was running out of time. So I guess that's why she could only do one song. Toast was a nice way to end the tour. That's when she mentioned how much she was going to miss us and you could see she had to stop talking because she was going to cry. I'm glad I went. I wish I would have gotten there earlier for the meet n greet. Next time I will. I had to go to the emergency room the night before. I had a heartrate of 218 for no reason. It happened last month as well. I'm on medication and my doctors are doing tests. There might be something wrong with my thyroid. My blood is low in magnesium and high in phosphorus. So I felt a little weak the next day and couldn't get ready fast enough to get there early. Ah well...

Also, did you garner any overall theme from the setlists you experienced? What was the significance of her choosing those songs for the last show? I'm really fascinated by this "setlist as a theme" idea. So if you have any insights, please share!

Wow Vina, I'm so happy you got to go to the last show and it was great for you. Those pics are fab, and between the 2 shows, you got a lot of her best songs. So did this make up for missing her in the Spring? And please dear, get well soon. I don't like hearing that you're having a hard time.

Well, lets see. Last spring I missed out on: Parasol Cool on Your Island Take to the Sky Cloud on My Tongue Tear in Your Hand So no. Thanks for your concern sweetie. I don't really like to talk about my current state of health, but sometimes it's hard because I can't do things and I have to give a reason. To think that I almost went to see NIN on Friday night... glad I didn't. Anywho I'm doing my best to figure out what's going on. It sucks, but I gotta keep my head up.

[Edited 9/18/05 12:33pm] When Tori played here at the symphony hall last spring, my friend had fifth row seats and I had seats further back on the floor like Row 28. After comparing notes, we both decided that I got the much better sound experience. From where I sat the sound was impeccable, her voice much more amazing than on the CDs, and I felt fully enveloped in the music. My friend with the fancy tickets didn't quite have the same experience.

i just can't believe--even after having seen SIX shows on this tour--that its over until 2007. 2thousandandfucking7! i'm such a dork. i could almost cry. maybe now i'll read her book. and hey, maybe i'll catch a show with you on the west coast next time since i may be living out there then!

(I woke up in the middle of the night last night and finished the last chapter) My very, very favorite part is where she talks about her songwriting process in the Saraswati chapter. My second favorite part is about how she develops themes with her setlists. That book is an amazing tool, especially for women artists.
