My young niece is seeing her tonight in Oregon. She's never seen her live. I first played Tori for her on the way home from a Cure concert when she was about 17. She was amazed and became an instant convert. Can't wait to hear her review!

I don't think I knew that. I'm sure you told me, but I thought for sure she already knew her music. Cool!

What I'd really appreciate is if someone would put up Tash's damn birthday show in Cleveland already. And the cover of Hyperballad. Grrr! mad

not to mention that it's disrespectful of other people's tastes. we're here to share the joy and then comes someone to say "_____ sucks". if you really want to join the discussion, then speak to it.

from The Dent:

Tori did perform at the KINK Live 8 Concert on Saturday night, September 10, 2005 at Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland, OR. She came on around 8:15PM and performed 6 songs. Reports say that Tori was really animated and fiery. This was a free event sponsored by KINK 102 FM and Tori was an unannounced special guest. Thanks to Matt Page for phoning me details, and to Lisa and Brandon for emailing them to me. Tori performed the following songs:

Crucify
Take To The Sky
Sweet The Sting
Silent All These Years
Cars And Guitars
Leather

Well, I didn't end up going but am glad because it was too much for me yesterday. However, my friend went and gave me some highlights. Tori spoke at the beginning saying she was glad to be there and that this area was one of the few places in the country that wouldn't run her out of town for the kind of set she was going to play. The theme of the show was anti-war and there were some very sad moving parts when placed in the context of 9/11 and the state of the country at war. I know because at work, we assembled the setlist in Itunes and played it through and I could hear a very angry critique of the government mixed with sad tributes to the dead. The songs all spoke to this. Evidently, she was screaming during Baron of Suburbia. Use of Scarlet's Walk songs made sense considering they speak to the land of America. (I think Amber Waves is a metaphor for the exploitation of the land) We couldn't find Black Swan, but the title and placement sounds intriguing given the theme. She had planned to play Past the Mission at the end, but switched it to Strange during the show. This info came from a Tori site online. It's not really about her playing our favorite songs (personally, I fave Choirgirl songs and was bummed she had done Cloud on Your Tongue in Portland), but about a greater message and experiencing a completely unique show to go home with.

boxed I know this isn't the place to admit it. But my psyche was too frayed Sunday to be propelled out into the stratosphere by a Tori concert. It was just something I had to do.

I was suffering post-vacation shock after going to my hometown for the first time in 8 years. Having a really hard time getting back into my life. The timing for Tori was just all off as I was dealing with all sorts of emotions. In addition, I had just seen the Rolling Stones, and I'm not good going to major shows twice in one week. I mean, I really got to deal...keep my job, return my emails, etc. lol Otherwise, I'd be like the salt doll that walks into the ocean and never comes back. dead

Is she doing meet-n-greets? This venue is kinda weird... you have to get shuttled into the venue. I wonder where she would do it. I don't think there is parking right outside the venue.

She does 'em for I'd say 90% of the shows, so there's a good chance.

The only times I've seen her not do it are either because of crap weather or crazed fans that get into fights.

Other than that, she comes out for about a half hour before each show between 3 and 5.

I'd say, go for it. wink

From The Dent:

Original Sinsuality
Amber Waves
China
Goodbye Pisces
Spark
Way Down
Virginia
Rattlesnakes

People Are Strange (The Doors cover)
We Belong (Pat Benatar cover)

Sweet Dreams
Doughnut Song
Black-Dove (January)
God/Running Up That Hill
The Beekeeper

1st Encore

Here. In My Head
Sweet The Sting

2nd Encore

1000 Oceans
Putting The Damage On

From Matt Page:

Tonight's show was really fantastic, and quite unique in many ways. Tori obviously had been reading up on the history, politics and scandals of the city prior to the show. San Diego experienced some kind of scandal involving the deputy mayor accepting a bribe and eventually having to resign. The bribe had to do with revoking a "no touching" rule that was in place for area strip clubs. Tori seemed to tailor her set list at times to this scandal!

After Amber Waves, which fits right into the above, Tori mentioned this scandal and said she is behind the strippers. She knows what they are going through, because she has to deal with record companies.

Tori did a brief but beautiful improv before Spark. It had lyrics something like, "She's out there somewhere, she's behind the moon. I hope she's happy. I hope she's found her spark." It was gorgeous.

Way Down, which is VERY rare at Tori shows, came out tonight, and was a debut for this tour. Tori performed a long piano intro which was amazing. Tori's version of Virginia was one of the strongest of the tour. Her cover of We Belong was also exceptionally strong, and she debuted The Doors cover.

Matt also stated that this was one of the strongest second half of the show that he has seen this year.

During Sweet Dreams, Tori at one point said, "No touchy", which was cute and an obvious reference to the scandal mentioned above.

Tori deviated twice from her written set list. She was supposed to do Marys Of The Sea instead of Sweet The Sting, and was supposed to perform Pretty Good Year instead of 1000 Oceans.
