In the best possible way of course. I just braved driving home through Katrina which was a superbitch, and now I'm going to bed. But I had to check the Tori download sites first! Yes, I got my Cooling. I got Hey Jupiter. I got Liquid Diamonds. I got Playboy Mommy. These are all Top 10 Tori songs for me, and I've never seen any of them live. All of that in combination with a hurricane, Tash's birthday and it being my last show made it special beyond belief. I'll post a more complete review once I've figured out how I'm going to resume my normal life.

i don't think the "bootlegs" are going to be available in stores. i think its only through the site.
tonight is my final night of this tour. i'm so excited! i was thinking the other night (at the detroit show) that it could never be as good as that show. now i'm wondering. since the beginning of the tour i've been hoping to hear marys of the sea, toast, little earthquakes, and yes, anastasia. well, i got the last two already...and its been quite a while since she performed toast (16 august, to be precise) and she hasn't done marys since friday in montreal. i'm hoping i'm due. good to see you got a bunch of your faves, gangsta! i'm more than a little salty that i wasn't there but starting to build that house was worth it. i'm also salty that you can't be here tonight (though i understand the 1st row priority!). we'll have to make the next tour, in 2007, another "world tour" again!

I'm saving as we speak. I wish I could be there too. I wish I could go to like 17 shows! I'm a bit sad that this tour is over for me also. This tour. I feel like she's made it the most special tour of her career. At least for me anyway. This is the essence of why I love Tori, and I'm absolutely transfixed when I watch her do her thing. It's hard to describe really. With the past 2 years I've been through, it's been exactly what I want and need. Plus, her singing and playing are better than ever.

All the better that we are getting CDs of six different shows this year. I was watching the Sunny Florida DVD the other day and while that tour was very cool, I felt this one was really special and I'm grateful that we get to hear it six different ways after it's over. Loved her dig at Sarah McLachlan from the April Chicago show. I'll probably listen to the L.A. show tonight.

Set list from September 3rd, Houston:
Original Sinsuality Beauty Queen Horses Caught A Lite Sneeze Mother Revolution Winter Father Lucifer Taxi Ride House of the Rising Sun (The Animals cover) Daniel (Elton John cover) Blood Roses Martha's Foolish Ginger Happy Phantom The Beekeeper 1st Encore Putting The Damage On Toast 2nd Encore Winding Road (Bonnie Somerville cover) Baker Baker All in all, a good show, but not as great as I was hoping for. After Beauty Queen/Horses, she greated the audience and said what a priveledge it was to be playing for a city that had opened its hearts and homes to the victims of Katrina. This was nice, since I live in a state that is so frequently attacked for the vocal morons that live here. It was a wonderful change of pace to have the good people of Texas get their due. During the "Piano Bar" segment, she started to play "Winding Road", but then realised that she really didn't know the song well enough. Instead, she launched into an inpromptu silly song about how she would have to save the song for her encore, wishing she could get the make-up girl to sing it for her, but she's tone deaf. She then played John's "Daniel". All in all, I felt the covers were rather pedestrian, considering some of the cool stuff she's sprung on fans at these shows. Katrina seemed to really be on her mind quite a bit, as "Winding Road" & "House of the Rising Sun" were definitely done in reference to it. She also played several tunes from Pele, with imagery that recalled New Orleans (she repeated the line from "Blood Roses" about "the Belle of New Orleans" several times). "Father Lucifer" and "Taxi Ride" were nice surprises that I didn't expect. Most of her arrangements of the evening were quite nice, and I truly enjoyed them. The song that just fell flat to me was "The Beekeeper" which seemed to go on forever. The song was just boring live, and didn't work for me at all. There are so many other songs from that album I would have preferred (and she could have played about three of them in the time it took her to do this one). Having checked out the Austin setlist, I do wish I had been at that show, since it had way more of what I was hoping for. Still, this was a decent show. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

I've heard a lot of folks who aren't fond of the live performances of "The Beekeeper". I LOVE it! I get so tranced out and I feel like it's a really important song for her. Plus, it sounds a lot like one of my favorite Bjork songs, "Sweet Sweet Intuition". You can practically sing them on top of eachother. I wish there was an official studio version that sounds like the solo organ performance. I think it's the perfect way for her to close out the main set. That being said, I know what you mean about getting bummer covers. It does make a big difference to the overall effect of her shows. In Detroit back in April, I wasn't fond of either song she did and it kinda tainted the night for me. Don't know why. But since then, I've seen Both Sides Now, The Circle Game, Karma Police, Running Up That Hill and some other great covers. When she's on, she's really on, ya know? It can be among the most impressive moments of the night when she really nails a cover. I wish I could've seen her do Hyperballad tonight.

The first time I experienced her live version of "The Beekeeper", it totally didn't register, but the second time at Jones Beach, I was entranced. I found it absolutely haunting and thought that must be a totally new rendition because no way would I have forgotten a performance like that from her show earlier that year in New York. Well, I listened to both live CDs that were recently released and to my surprise she had been performing "The Beekeeper" that way for the entire tour. Why it didn't click with me the first time, I have no idea. And as for the covers, the Don McLean and Springsteen covers I heard the first time definitely added to my not entirely overwhelming review of the first show and the Beatles' covers in her second show really added to that overall performance. The piano bar is the centerpiece of each show and the covers chosen each night can significantly alter someone's perception of the entire night (like mine).

I guess she did a radically different version of "The Beekeeper" in Boston, but I haven't found that circulating yet. Hopefully, it's one of the live albums released cuz she debuted 6 songs that night.
