Billie Jean was a great moment but it was an okay performance. I think a key factor was that he hadn't performed live as a solo artist at that point in years. It was all about music videos for Michael. Looking back it was also the beginning of the Michael we would eventually know.

BTW, anyone think it's a bit strange that Beyoncé Knowles talks about Billie Jean, the video and Motown 25 like she was right there watching it and can remember it? Someone's lying about their age lol

19. Jackson Family Honors

How embarassing was that crap? lol Michael just stood on stage, laughed and waved at his fans, Elizabeth Taylor told them he wasn't going to sing, followed by some booing and her classic line "Don't BOO, it's an UGLY sound", and then a "FUCK YOU" from someone in the audience biggrin

Then he does this cute but annoying thing where the screaming starts to die down and he just encourages it some more by laughing and saying "I love you more" for the tenth time.

And WTF was Celine Dion doing there?

The motown 25 was all that, for those who didn't see it Live or haven't seen the entire performance with the J5.

The intro to that performance was sooo hot. The way he tossed the hat, the glove, after the first 10 seconds everyone in my family was on edge.

When he did the first moonwalk and spun, my uncle was like damn, my head was not focused on the first one because I was reacting to my family members. I remember the second one vividly and I had never seen any thing like that.

She sounded good, while everyone sounded like shit, Janets performance was lame ass shit. The last excellent vocal performance on TV from Michael was the Gone Too Soon acapella at the Clinton Gala.

i like 2 specific ones from the MSG shows

1. the jacksons performance....

the funny thing is, years before i was wondering what it would look like to see them you know, together...with mike being as "light" as he is and the contrast and stuff, and how wierd it was gonna be....

BUT MAAAAANNNNN when they hit that stage that was the last thing on my mind! that has got to be one of the most exciting things i ever saw in my life. as bad as the show was in the "die hard" fans eyes -and some casuals who pay attention- that performance was AMAZING!

2. YOU ROCK MY WORLD performance....

it was alright, but my favorite part at the end when CHRIS TUCKER did that punk ass kick, and mike LITERALLY fell out on the floor in laughter. that was the first glimpse i saw of mike being mike - on stage non the less.

Anyway, as mentioned before for the Diana Ross & Earth Song part, the 1996 World Music Awards - probably the last one before it became the embarassing mess it is now - that was just "The Michael Jackson Show", wasn't it?

The jacksons were great. And randy singing "opp" during "ABC" was too funny. Mike gave him an evil ass stare. Too funny.

yeh, but not the best. that performance is so overrated its not funny. maybe it was a had to be there moment, which i most certainly wasnt there or born, but its defiently not his best, i think his best is 'the jacksons variety show' by far.

Nothing can top the Motown 25th Anniversary performance of "Billie Jean" in 1983.That was Michael at the top of his game.He mesmerized the world with that performance.I remember going to school the next day,and that was ALL everyone was talking about! The entire show was spectacular, but it was Michael who really stole the show. That one performance is what jump-started the whole 'Thriller' craze. The album started selling like crazy after that show aired.

Stole the Show & Stole the dance moves. In a nutshell he "repacked" 1970's B-Boys hip hop dance moves for the 1980's white media & white audience.

They run the media & have the loudiest voice, so if they are excited about something then it is turned into fact.

If the Internet was around in 1983, this moment & really allot of Early MTV Moments from MJ & Others would have been exposed. Because in the Hood the next day after Motown 25, everyone was laughing that people were going nuts over b-boy moves that were around for over a decade.

Now add he lip synced it.

Actually he stole that move from James Brown, the moonwalk is just the camel walk backwards and that was one of James Browns signature moves back in the day.

Oh,so now you're accusing Michael of stealing dance moves? On a previous thread, you were accusing Madonna of stealing Mike's dance moves! I guess this is your strategy for dissing artists that you don't like....simply accuse them of ripping off other people (yawn).Newsflash: Nothing done in pop music is unique.Everything has been done before and every artist is influenced by artists that came before them.Regardless of where MJ got his moves from, there is no denying that his performance of "Billie Jean" on that Motown special was captivating.Criticize his face-lifts,his eccentic behavior, his nose jobs, but at least give credit where it is due.He is a brilliant song-and-dance man and always has been.

Are we clear on that? Damn!

I dunno why people criticise Mike for nicking dance moves. He always gives proper credit to his influences, and Jeffrey Daniels can't be bitter about the backslide on TV thing as he's still one of MJ's most ardent supporters. If you wanna rag on someone go to Timberfake and his "my hat was inspired by Frank Sinatra/Radiohead inspire my music" rubbish.

Jeffrey Daniels wasn't bitter at all,he even appeared in MJ's "Bad" video in 1987.
