Best Sade album?

I can't pick between:

"Promise" (1985)

"Love Delux" (1992)

Fave tracks from Promise:
War of the Hearts, You're Not the Man, Maureen, Mr. Wrong, Is it a Crime

Love Delux:
Feel No Pain, Couldn't Love You More, Cherish the Day, Kiss of Life, Like A Tattoo

Which one?

I think, actually, I hafta go with: LOVE DELUX! HOT HOT HOT!
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

i'm a big fan of "stronger than pride".

then i'd say "diamond life",

closely followed by "love deluxe",

then "lover's rock"

and way at the end (though i by no means hate it),

"promise", which i've never really been crazy about, though it's a pleasant enough album.

what's wrong with "lover's rock"??? lol

i don't hate "promise", it just didn't do much for me. i thought there were some good songs on "lover's rock", plus i love the beachwood sparks' cover version of "by your side", which i guess is neither here nor there, but still...

I know I'm in the minority on this site, but most of the people I know prefer her newer work.

While her first couple albums are pleasant enough, there's something very cold and distant about them. It makes that stage of her career a lot less interesting and meaningful to me.

Something happened to her sound and content with "Stronger Than Pride". The music became human. Her voice became loving and emotional. What she sang about became deeply intimate and beautiful. And I feel that with each album since then, she's become less and less detached. There's a lot of genuine pain and beauty in her work now that resonates with me.

And I don't get what people are missing with "Lovers Rock". That has got to be one of my absolute favorite albums.

But between the 2 choices before us, I'll go w/ Promise definitely...

I think last year I picked Love Deluxe but I'll say Stronger Than Pride followed closely by Love Deluxe. Kiss of Life and Cherish the Day... worship

Stronger Than Pride has some great tracks. I understand why folks dig Lover's Rock. I dig it too. It has a nice cohesive quality to it.

Then we are both in the minority because I'm with you. I also agree Stronger Than Pride was almost like a new beginning. Before STP (Which is her best IMO) I was luke warm about Sade and wouldn't have caleld myself a fan. Sure I liked a few of her songs but that was about it. So my vote goes to STP for her best album with Love Delux and Lover's Rock a close second.

The "Love Deluxe" is so sexy. Sade defines sexy.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.
