EWF "Evil" I can't get enough of this jam! It's the shit...psychedelic sould at it's finest. Especially the keyboard improv toward the end...the most haunting, funky, soulful shit I've ever heard. I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

"Evil" is one of EW&F's most hypnotic jams. The song spotlights a mesmerizing Afro-Latin sound, with some amazing kalimba playing from Maurice White. It's from their 1973 album 'Head To The Sky',one of the best albums from their early days.

Hypnotic is a good word to describe it. I've got the single on a compilation, but I still need to buy this album. I had it at one point, but I lost it.

Love this tune. Probably the 1st thing I heard from them.
Makes my Top 10 EW&F list. Notice Verdine's pre-Nick Ashford look on the Head to the Sky cover. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

I lost my copy of Prince's Black Album a few years back and just replaced it last year. Took me a while to find it cheap, because I didn't wanna pay $40 or more on eBay for it.

Quite frankly i think it's a bit annoying Actually, Philip Bailey's regular singing voice is in the same range as Maurice White's - the two of them used to do all of the lead AND background vocals EWF's studio albums--- and he sings Maurice's parts in concert...not sure why he doesn't use his regular voice more often... ... Yep. Hey, when P released the single "When Doves Cry", and he had all of the flowers all over the white floor, this album cover came to my mind instantly. speaking of EWF, that new song that they have out now, I swear to God I hear Maurice's voice on it...I thought he had quit singing with them since he had got sick a few years back.
I hope that it is him on the song and that he feels well enough to sing like he used to again. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

It's pretty sad. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Yeah, Maurice is singing a lot more than he did in the 90's, but his voice is nowhere near what it used to be, because of the Parkinson's.....I really liked it on "Show Me The Way", though, it's just not what it was.... ... Yes,it is Maurice on the song.He still sings on their albums. He just doesn't tour with them anymore, although he did make a few appearances with them last year.Btw,did you ever get their 2003 album 'The Promise'? Maurice is all over that album, singing lead vocals on almost every song. But like TA said, his voice isn't what it used to be.

Yes...Parkinson's has slowed him a bit, but GOD has still been good to him, since he can still sing and occasionally perform with the guys sooo many years after being diagnosed, especially when you see others who suffer from the same disease....AND we need to remember, that he will be 64 years old in December.....

Quite frankly i think it's a bit annoying I guess you don't listen to alot of EW&F music. There are many songs where Phil sings in his "normal" voice.Listen to the song "Clover" that I mentioned above.

This thread takes me back, way back, the time when major record labels would allow a group to freely express themselves musically. EWF put out some incredible music back then. And just think Jessica later sung with P Funk.

My cousins had a band(love to S.U.L.) back in the day and they'd cover "Evil". there was a thread about full lp's you'd listen to... this (KYHTTS) would be one of those for me. Evil with White playing the Kalimba "Masquerade" is a message to the madness. [Edited 8/11/05 11:16am]
