What is the most expensive - Rare LP?

I am on GEMM going back and forth about buying this record that costs $100!!!!!

DOnt think I'm gonna do it, and I really just need to forget about it, but it's gonna haunt me forever if I don't have it. (The Eight Minutes - An American Family) [I have this very very rare 45 of "Find The One Who Loves you / Looking For A Brand New game, THEY SOUND JUST LIKE THE JACKSON 5 and it's really good both songs].

WHY does it have to be so damn expensive!! sad bawl

the most i ever spent on an album was probably for some prince bootie shit, way before i had any kind of resources or knew any other fans and had to hunt stuff out in wrecka stows. man, did i get robbed...but i appreciated everything i found and treated it all like the most valuable stuff in the world, so i guess it kinda endeared me to a lot of stuff i might have overlooked or listened to once and tossed in a box otherwise.

as for $$$ i've dropped on collectibles, i haven't paid a whole lot. i'm crafty with the ol' eBay...i found three very rare out-of-print albums that i was looking for, each of which was selling for $75-$100, and i managed to pay twenty bucks a pop for each of 'em. just gotta be persistent and patient.

This is perhaps the most expensive album ever.

The Beatles Yesterday And Today album with the original "butcher" cover. Capitol T/ST 2553 Released Jun 15th 1966. Black Label with rainbow-color band. Referred to as the "first state" cover. Cover has a controversial photo of the group dressed in white butcher smocks showing cuts of raw meat & parts of toy dolls strewn about their apparel. They were not placed in stores by Capitol, which handled its own distribution through 25 or so company owned distribution centers. Capitol's distribution centers got the recall notice on the butcher before any were placed in stores. A small amount of Capitol's records were distributed through independent distributors, who serviced jobrackers for places such as department stores.

The independent distributors did not get the recall notice in time, so some jobrackers got copies of the album and actually placed them in stores before they got the recall notice. Also, it is believed that Wallichs' Music City in Hollywood got all its Beatles records a few days before the other stores because Mr. Wallichs was a co-founder of Capitol and was still involved with the company. I have heard stories from two different people who claim they saw the cover in Wallichs on a Thursday afternoon, which would presumably have been the day before the recall notice went out on Friday, June 10. A very limited number of first state butchers were sold through department stores and Wallichs' Music City before the recall order went out. As to why so few show up in shrink, remember, people normally removed the shrink wrap as soon as they bought an album. They bought records to play them, not to save them for anal-retentive collectors who want everything in the shrink. In the sixties, people normally played records and few wanted to leave the shrink wrap on as it had a tendency to bend the covers.

Instead of recalling the (very scant) initial pressing, Capitol sent out a bunch of "stick-on" covers featuring the cover art you know today (the steamer trunk photo), and these were pasted onto the existing covers. "Unpeeled" means this paste-over cover still covers the original, "peeled" means someone has removed it (DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU HAVE ONE lol).

There are 6 forms of the cover: These are:
1. First State (never been covered) stereo THE MOST EXPENSIVE BY FAR
2. First State (never been covered) mono
3. Paste Over (second state unpeeled) stereo
4. Paste Over (second state unpeeled) mono
5. Peeled State (third state) stereo
6. Peeled State (third state) mono

http://www.eskimo.com/~bp...tcher.html for all information about it.

This vinyl (a first state stereo copy in shrink wrap) fetches prices of $50,000+ at auction, a world-record price! A sealed mono copy will now set you back over $20,000. An unsealed mono goes for $450.00+
