My brief review of Sigur Ros - Takk (New Album)

Landscapes.. memories.. sadness.. happiness.. beauty.. wonder..cold...mystery..

Things like that pop in your head when you hear the new Sigur Ros album..
So you dont speak "Hopelandic"? Or Icelandic? its okay.. cause this albums focal point doesnt deal with the boundaries of language...The vocal chords are just as important as the other organic things happening.. we just are hearing them differently than ususual.. the sigur ros way.

The album starts with a brief introduction with strings and such.. then heads into a whopper of a song.. "Glosoli"
In this song.. we have a dynamic song that increases with strength towards the ending.. In fact, it ends with a bang.. Much of their music doesnt surface such energetic feelings. but here we have a nice way to get into the album.
I would say this is Sigur Ros best album.. although it may seem distant to some, the more you hear the album, the more it becomes apart of you.. almost as a soundtrack to life..
Track 3 entitled "Hoppipolla" will bring tears to your eye's.. Its perhaps one of the best songs Sigur has ever written, if not one of the best songs that has come out this year. The thing that sigur ros has mastered, is their interpretation of beauty.. It comes in all sounds of volume on their new album.

Sadness could be the theme of their overall music.. but at times like on track 5 entitled "Hafupukar" shows you that Sigur Ros can manipulate their soundscapes into a beautiful composition that makes you smiles towards the end.. This lengthy songs starts turning into a english sounding horns making the mood more uplifting with beautiful strings..

There are more "radiohead" sounding tracks like "Gong".. Radiohead might not be the best example, but the drums and structure of the song resemble something that Thom could write and perform.

There is so much more to uncover with an album like this, that I dont want to comment about simply because its still digesting. This isnt an album you could hate (not for me at least) The beauty shines through the first moment it plays.. and grows with every passing moment.

Overall.. This (to me) is Sigur Ros masterpiece.. and last I heard.. its their last album.

I give this 5 out of 5

Well done sir. Well Done.

Thank you! I am greatly anticipating this album AND seeing them live for the first time in September. Where did you find it? I thought it was a scheduled Fall release? It sounds amazing.
