Jam Of The Day: "Peanut Butter" by Twennynine

This was a sho-nuff bad ass jam that came out right after the death of the disco era. This jam was pure funk. Anybody else into this one?

Good, crazy tune with some funky piano work. I have this on a couple of compilation CDs.

Yes!!!!!
Great jam from the Lenny white and Twennynine album, "Best of Friends":

Piano and keyboards by Don Blackman, who also wrote the tune...

for more tunes like that, check out his Great 1982 album "Don Blackman":, a must for Funk connoisseurs(if you can find it)!

If you don't wanna take my word for it, check out the AMG review:
http://www.allmusic.com/c...evad6ki8w1

Besides legendary Jazz Drummer Lenny White and Don Blackman, the group also included guitarist Eddie Martinez(Run DMC's "Rock Box" and "King Of Rock"), additional keyboards by EWF's Larry Dunn and also included vocalists DeeDee Bridgewater and Carla Vaughn.

These musicians , along with Tom Browne, Marcus Miller, and Bernard Wright, made up the core of The Jamaica Queens, New York Funk-Jazz sound!! seperately and together they were responsible for jams like:

Peanut Butter
Funkin For Jamaica
Thighs High (Grip Your Hips and Move)
Who Do You Love
Habaglabotribbin'

among others...

I remember seeing this album in the stores back in the day. I don't remember any of the songs from it but I definately remember seeing it.

Yeah, It wasn't a big hit back when it was released, but over the years it has gotten a cult status (it was probably bigger over in the UK and Japan than it was here in the U.S.)...

I've seen this album at a vintage record store a few months ago. The song "Loving You, Wanting You" is the only song i'm familiar with off the album.

Oh, yeah, Peanut Butter is THAT jam!!!!! "share, share with me.....ain't nuthin' but a SANDWICH!"

man,it's a damn shame that you don't hear funky jams like this being created by today's R&B artists. This song is pure funk at it's finest.1980 was a particularly great year for funk music. In addition to this jam,we had stuff like...

"Backstrokin" by Fatback
"Funkin For Jamaica" by Tom Browne
"Wide Receiver" by Michael Henderson
