Another Barkays rip off album from the 80s

The album Dangerous has the most blatant rip of MJ's Billie Jean in history in a song called Dirty Dancer. And Prince should send Londell to collect some royalties for their song called Dance, Party, Etc. It is a shamelss rip of DMSR - hell, the song title is even a rip off!!

Its all good I suppose - they are still funkier than any of today's crap.

LOL....yeah they started getting desparate for hits .

They have a tune that sounds like Give It To Me Baby--Rick James, No Parking On the Dancefloor-- Midnight Star, DMSR--Prince, Three Times A Lady--Commodores

The entire lp was infringement, but it sold!!

Prince ripped off Mtume on a tune note for note. I remember Mtume being pissed. Nobody knew who Mtume was most thought it was new and fresh tune. I think it's "She always In My Hair" Mtume has an original tune with the same music.

Also, the Bar-kays have song called Sexomatic which is personal favorite. It sounds like Automatic with faster tempo.

I really love the BarKays, but they have a long history of ripping off other artists.Like you pointed out,the song "Dirty Dancer" (which I love) blatantly "borrows" the synth riff from "Billie Jean".And it's obvious that "Dance,Party,Etc" is a rip-off of "DMSR".They even have a song from the 70s (can't remember the title) that sounds just like EW&F's "Shining Star".

That would be 'Too Hot To Stop'....

Plus they have another song called 'Shine',

that sounds like EWF's 'On Your Face'.....

Billie Jean is a direct rip-off of Steely Dan's Do It Again. Everything everyone's done has pretty much been done before. There are very few true musical innovators.

"Open Your Heart" from their 1980 album, "As One" sounds a little like Earth, Wind, and Fire.

Some of the "Too Hot To Stop" album also sounds a little like The Ohio Players.

Very true but the 'Open Your Haart' track is a great one so no problem. Surely we only have a problem if the sound-alike track is poor. That track is tops. cool

Correct. I've never had a problem with The Bar-Kays. They are my third favorite group of all time. biggrin
