i don't know, Spymob added a lot of flavor to the first release. Too bad Pharrell and Chad kicked them to the curb after learning how to play guitar and bass. That 2nd N.E.R.D. release didn't do too much for me, i think it had a lot to do with the absence of Spymob. i'll just have to wait and see what Pharrell has hooked up on this release, though i'm expecting more hip-hop and guest appearances than anything experimental or rocked influenced.

I agree.

I have no idea what Pharrell is going to do. smile

It seems as if Chad never gets any props, it's always about Pharrell

Chad doesnt enjoy the limelight. He likes being in the background.

Oh ok I guess

That makes two albums this entire year I'm looking forward to, the new Pharell and the forthcoming George Clinton double album'HLDUHTBBYA'.

Thinking about it, I think George and Pharell would sound kinda good together.

It's been a bit of a slow year so far though hasn't it?

Just what I need to hear, a whole album of Pharrell trying to sing and failing miserably...

Pharrell's singing is weak, and his songs are all fairly derivative. I'm not terribly excited.

Cuz he's not a singer. He's said it himself. Whatever comes out, is what ya get. If it's true, I can't wait. Either way, I love N*E*R*D/The Neptune's stuff.

Is James Brown a great singer?
Is George Clinton a great singer?
Is Bob Dylan a great singer?

Many people would agree that they arent great singers but they use their voices to get their point across and they do so effectively. Pharrell Williams has such an ability. U wont hear Pharrell trying to sing a Mariah Carey-esque style ballad. Its just not gonna happen. He isnt going to try to do anything that will compromise what his objectives are. He never has.

There's a big difference between Pharrell and the other singers you mentioned. JB, George and Bob Dylan have a lot of character in their voices; Pharrell hasn't anything going for him vocally and is absolutely woeful. His megalomania is getting somewhat out of hand these days, methinks...

Amen to that. There's this guitar version of "What's wrong with me" that i used to have but can't find anywhere. That's the version i want. The released one was so...."rock".

What meglomania has Pharrell exhibited? He seems more humble than most. Im sorta confused here.

I really have nothing against Pharrell (other than it's getting old...) but this says something about the music industry. I think it's great that not only is he releasing a solo album, but that it's coming out so soon after the announcement. Just get in there and do it.

On the other hand, Donna Summer isn't on a label and other established R&B artists are struggling to get their stuff released. We really treat our "elders" well, don't we?

..Had to jump in on this..If Pharrell is gonna do his thing, I'm hoping it's in the vein of "In Search Of". That CD is tight and has some kickin' melodies on it. "Am I High" is almost reminiscent of 1977 E.W & F ..(yeah, I said it). I picked up "Fly Or Die" and took it back and exchanged it..it's horrible. Hopefully, Spymob will do their thing on some of the cuts.

When I first got Fly or Die I hated it. I was like what the f*ck were they thinking? But I gave it another chance especially the songs that I had seen them perform in concert I was a little partial to. Next thing I know I'm running it non-stop. I still hate She Wants to Move and Backseat Love but I can really dig Jump, Breakout headbang, Maybe, Wonderful Place. I know folks say that there's better out there but I enjoyed their show which made me appreciate the album more.

Come on, if he had some respect for his miniscule singing talent, he wouldn't try to enforce on the public all the time.
We agree to disagree, dreamfactory313...but that's cool!
I have to say that he's done a few wicked tracks; loved the Clipse stuff and, of course, the "Drop It..." track...

I agree that the Godfather's voice is great but he does not have a traditionally great singing voice. Hes got a voice for the funk. He uses it as best he can and it is effective for what his objectives are. I wouldnt want to hear James Brown sing the Star Spangled Banner. That would be too painful. U get what Im sayin'?

I love JB but I hear what dreamfactory31 is saying. I'd consider him a song stylist rather than a singer.
