yo Rhonda B!...Badu show last night/sugarwater

girl, you missed a great one in Concord...she killed it! i was bummed it was only 45 min but whatcha go do? at first i was worried that Jill Scott would be the crowd favorite because they dug her so much and seemed to have to crowd in the palm of her hand...but then, Badu had the place entranced!

her setlist:
jah no dead (intro)
on & on/...& on
woo
back in the day
back in the day--interlude (all about how she used to smoke weed)
bag lady
tyrone (tease)
love of my life/freestyle rap
friends (an old hip hop joint I never heard before)
tyrone

then was joined by latifah and jilly for an encore.

she wore a black business suit/skirt and the headwrap is back! bright blue towel looking thang. she looked skinnier than ever...and didn't have to rely on the vocal acrobatics of jill...she just remained almost eerily calm and did her sh*t. every minute of her set was worth the hundred bucks i dropped.
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

Wow. As she stated, all her shows are different but damn. COMPLETELY different from what I saw. Sounds like you got the better version.
Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

When she came out the audience went wild. She wore yellow knickers and a tight yellow top with some sort of kelly green stripe or fabric going across to match her kelly green--or were they purple knee high socks and high heels. She had the crazy not really a 'fro but just a mass of hair on her head and falling into her eyes.
She opned up with:

Green Eyes
On and On*
I Want You
Cleva
Woo (she cut this short and did her drum machine solor for awhile)
Back In The Day (Puff) (which got the die-hards going crazy but she quickly interrupted it because I think she wasn't getting the response she wanted)
Danger
Tyrone

At some point she bent all the way back and her 'fro fell off to reveal braids down to her knees. And she did a Cher imitation and the crowd loved it.

*I forgot she sang this so maybe it wasn't as differnet as I thought.

Damn, I wanted THAT setlist! Last night was cool though... I loved her outfit. And Whodini came on stage and rapped to 'Friends'.

Good setlist, tho the show reads more "erratic" than it probably was.

I still have a bad taste in my mouth from Taste of Chicago 2003 . . . ill

I was waiting to hear a great report from a coworker, but she had drama. Her and her cousin drove from SF to Concord, and discovered that they didn't have the tickets with them. For those who live in the bay area, that trip is no joke especially with almost half a dozen ways to get caught up in traffic, and on top of that arranging to get somebody to delivery tix. So by the time they finally got inside, it was halfway through Erykah's set.

I can't believe Floetry hadn't been on by 7:45. They were the opening act, and Erykah closed it.
"Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

Not only that, but, the song has so many things going on musically, that I would LOVE to see her KILL it live! This is a song which can stimulate you on so many levels; she's got to deliver the "message" vocally, the musicians have got to play their behinds off to stay technically true to the piece, and well, hey, whenever they have to sample stuff in live performance, whomever is on THAT tip has got to be HELLA on pointe as well...

I hear SO many things happening when I hear this song that I would also LOVE to get a taste of it live!

Good idea - they're taping it (feeding it to the tents & so on, showing it on the big screens) so it just might biggrin
