Dead or Alive No, I'm not trying to post a new thread of artists who could either be dead or alive, as much fun as it sounds. Instead - what about the band, fronted by the androgynous Pete Burns? They had the hits "You Spin Me Round," "Something In My House," and "Brand New Lover" among others.
I guess they are one of my gulity pleasures. Would I cruise around blaring them with my car windows down - no. But I do miss them and liked their music. What does everyone else think of it and, most importantly, does anyone know of any new projects for the band or Pete Burns? [As a funny side note, a few years ago when Andy Dick had his show on MTV, I used to swear he was imitating Pete Burns when using a singing voice for his "cousin of Christina Aguilera character."]

Seriously, though, "You Spin Me Round" is a very big guilty pleasure of mine. I never could get into the rest of their catalogue, but Pete Burns gets props from me for being unique

I LOVE it when Pete Burns goes on a rant around the internet. The Dannii Minogue one was hilarious.

That's the CD I have. is right! I haven't listened to it in a while, but I'm inspired to do so now. Great set of fun, catchy dance songs. My Heart Goes Bang is one of the best dumb songs ever, and Brand New Lover, In Too Deep and Something in My House are the best Bananarama songs that Bananarama never performed.

I started one of these a while ago. Good to see them come up in a musical sense.
I am actually a big fan of thier music. Mostly the old stuff. They were on of the first bands in which I discovered hi-energy music and thus the alternate side of music. It's also some of the beginnings of electronic music we have today. I was such a fan back when too. They were my first concert (it was awful...but I still have the t-shirt). I had this beautiful T-shirt of thiers that had A side profile of Pete with the patch. I was offered a lot of money for it once...but I didn't give it up as I loved that shirt as well (it's almost threadbare now). I had practically all of their 12" and made a make/break decision when I was in London to pick up either Hooked on Love 12" or the Videos through Housequake. I picked up the later but later discovered you can't play videos here in the US (it was a PAL VHS). Subsequntly, my love for them led me to the Mission UK via wayne hussey. My musical world changed after I got my first Mission album which was about as opposite as you can get from DOA stuff. Thier latest is a collab with the Pet SHop Boys call Jack and Jill party. I haven't heard it yet. I find a lot of the newer offering trite and appealing really to just a gay audience. But they still have a place in my heart. Christian Zombie Vampires

it's all about "Misty Circles" 12" version (which will never be released on cd... bastards!!!!!)
Jack and Jill Party is ok... his voice still sounds good, but the track is not that memorable.... For anyone curious, Dead or Alive totally ripped off the music and sound of Divine [the John Waters 'creation'](I know.. I was shocked too!!!!)

I think Expose's producer, Lewis Martinee even did a remix on the 12" single.

I was familiar with the 12" a long time before I was familiar with the album version. Yeah that is probably one of their best song in their catalog. In term of sound and compositon, I'd say it's along the lines of Been a long time. And both sound unlike most of their songs. I didn't know that part about ripping off Divine. Where did you get that. Pete probably would not admit to such a thing (he's an ego maniac). I'm not all that sure that they really wrote thier stuff...in a band sense. And certainly it was of the same ilk as DIvine..but I think Divine as a music artist was really a one or two trick pony and merely delving into music as another outlet of his art. IMO DOA's music was much better. Does anyone know about Pete's music before DOA. I recall something like Nightmares...something. I recall a song about him driving on a motorcycle with his dick in his hand or something. Christian Zombie Vampires

a long time ago, a friend played me a Divine greatest hits cd (who knew there was one!) and I was totally shocked when I heard the music because it was VERY similar to a lot of DOA songs...
It's possible that he was completely unaware of how similar their styles were, but I made the connection upon the first (and only) listen to Divine. There used to be samples of the Nightmares on Wax stuff on the official DOA site, and I wasn't that impressed.... but it was nowhere near as awful as "Love Pete (aka Fan The Flame Pt. 2)... what a piece of shit that was!!!! and what the hell is up with his HUGE lips? He used to be married to a woman that looked just like him circa "youthquake" (lynne) in the 80s, but I've always thought he was gay... anyone know what the deal is??? It doesn't really matter to me one way or the other, but I was curious.

I saw the lead singer on pop quiz shoe "never mond the buzcocks" a few years back. Bloke was too funny. Mark lamarr really really dug into him. I forgot what they were arguing about, but it was so damn funny and stupid.
How about mayrlin? The boy george clone? I forget his song, but this video is stupid. Kinda retro in feel. Its pants. At least "u spin me right round" is better then any of bananarama's zombie sung shit.
