oh shit, this is tough!! though "Nation" is widely considered being their biggest classic, I personally prefer "Fear". it's tighter and more enjoyable to listen to from start to finish. So yes, my vote goes to...

Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

Same here. One of my favorite albums - superb from start to finish. And Welcome to the Terrordome, despite the controversy around it, is a great song, probably one of the best in the genre. Terminator X is outstanding on this album! I can only imagine how much clearance rights would be these days for all those samples.

The answer simply HAS to be It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back. It may be the most important album of the last 20 years. It changed the sound of hip-hop and music as a whole. It established hip-hop as a legitimate, important art form.

And it is superior to Fear of a Black Planet, which, make no mistake, is a classic, revolutionary album in its own right. Without NOM, there is no FOABP, which takes its cues from NOM.

This is so hard.

I remember Spin magazine said Fear Of A Black Planet was the number one album of the 1990s. nod

Then, when Spin did their list that included 1985-2005, It Takes A Nation Of Millions was higher.

And I feel the same.

It Takes A Nation Of Millions is still the most potent hip-hop album of all time.

Production-wise though, I like Fear Of A Black Planet more. You get things like the "Think" interlude.

Sounds like I can't decide. neutral

No one is allowed to build a dense collage of samples anymore!

And no one sounds as informed as Chuck D.

Haven't seen it yet. I read the footage is rather raw, but I'm used to seeing raw footage of ancient hip-hop stuff. No one expected to produce a DVD of that footage 18 years later.

I think I'll rent it.

Fear of a Black Planet. The production is alot leaner, meaner and tighter than It Takes a Nation, IMO. Definitely an album I can play over and over again.

This question is like which is better Goodfellas or Casino for me

the first will always be the better one because it was the first and its original, but the second is greater because its more polished and higher in quality...

I vote Fear of the Black Planet

So I rented it! It's fun to watch. cool The best part is "Flav's Break" when Flavor does a dance to the beat from "Do The James" by Super Lover Cee & Casanova Rud, and Chuck does a quick verse that would later turn into "Terminator X to the Edge of Panic". thumbs up!

This is some raw ass VHS footage fa sho!

ITANOMTHUB On the strength of Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos alone...

I got a letter from the government the other day
I opened and read it, it said they were suckers
They wanted me for their army or whatever
Picture me given' a damn - I said never
Here is a land that never gave a damn
About a brother like me and myself
Because they never did
I wasn't wit' it, but just that very minute
It occurred to me the suckers had authority

...fro

This was the 1st thing I ever heard by PE and it literally stopped me in my tracks.

Powerful!
