By the time of "Sign O The Times", the first album after the breakup of The Revolution, Prince had a whole new group of fans, along with some of the remaining ones, that were going to buy every Prince album, no matter how it sounded. I remember thinking each time I bought a Prince album in the late 1980s "Prince is going to really go broke with this one and I hope he does so he will get back on track". Then I would turn on the TV and see Prince performing overseas and these people going wild. I thought "Hell, no wonder, these people prefer this Prince over the old one". Case in point (as I stand corrected): Lovesexy was a lot more success in Europe than America. Prince's overseas fans were (and maybe still are) more open-minded to anything different from the norm!!! This is why he toured to sellout arena crowds on the European leg of the Lovesexy tour and couldn't fill up similar-size venues on the American leg. Didn't Prince set records for the most consecutive sellouts at Wembeley Stadium during the Parade tour? As I recall, he also sold out stadiums and arenas all across Europe on the SOTT, Lovesexy, and Nude tours. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

In the lobby of the theater, I ran into a good friend of mine that I had not seen since high school. All through junior high and high school she had been a huge Prince fan so I just knew she was there to see "Graffiti Bridge". When I spoke with her in the lobby, she had no knowledge that Prince even had a new movie out because she said she stopped keeping up with him after "Purple Rain". She was there to see another movie altogether. I said "You must have not heard 'Batdance' last year. Prince sounded like he had halfway come back with that cold jam and the magazines are hyping this movie up to be part 2 of 'Purple Rain'. Girl, it looks like Prince has finally come back from La La Land!". Anyway, I talked both her and her then husband into joining me and my friend to see the movie. That had to be the corniest movie ever with fake sets and the whole "spiritual angel" thing going. I was so embarrassed, I wanted to slump down in my seat. Afterwards, she and her husband laughed at me like a dog. I saw her last May at our 20th year high school reunion and we laughed about that evening. She asked if I still was into Prince and I said "yes". I asked if she was and she said "Not no, but HELL no". I said "Prince has put out much better stuff since then, of course it's not the 'old Prince' though but it's much better than that corny ass movie". She teasingly said "Hell no, I've seen you're idea of what's good from that night at the movies. I be damned if I listen to you again". Andy is a four letter word.

Last year I went to see Madonna with some friends in Toronto. OK show, but I had a strong urge to go see Prince but didn't want to go by myself mainly because I didn't know the way up there or my way around the city. I mention wanting to go to the show when one of my future Mensa-ready firends states flat out that Prince is a loser becuase he had to give his cd away for free at his concerts blah blah blah. There was no mention about the raves his concert was recieving or that it was outselling all other shows for the year. Why? Because he was uniformed.
It might be safe to say that Madonna's 90's output is better then Princes, but it might also be safe to say that there's at least one song on any of his albums that are better then any song on any of hers. The point of this ramble? People are idiots perhaps? Or that calling someone a loser that has sold over 80 million dollars worth of tickets is someone with a demented sense of perspective. Or that longevity in the music industry is a fluke and that even Madonna, with her marketing savvy and radio friendly common sense falls in that lucky catagory. Not to mention that because of her shock tactics she's made the world basically shockless. Or that the ONLY way Prince will ever be a commercial success again is if he strictly followed the advice of someone else. But honestly in the end it just doesn't mean enough to him, which is why he isn't as famous as Maddy, Janet or Michael.

My admiration for Prince is strictly musical. He's an amazing musician, the best in my opinion. In my opinion, Madonna makes AMAZING music. She's not really a musician but I don't care. What she comes up with is great. Don't try to tell me she's not involved in her music neither. She was really one of the first female pop stars to write her own hits. She's been writing since her first album. She's a control freak too. You can tell by the producers she works with. Their sound always changes when they work with her due to her influence on the decision making. Even visually. "Frozen" is nothing like any other Chris Cunningham video. Speaking of visual, that's something else Madonna is good at. I think alot of people here are music heads and believe musicians should be only about music. We've been in a new era for about 30 years now. Visuals are very important to people like me. Madonna has the most brilliant video's and shows because she understands visuals. She's highly educated on art, photography, and fashion and knows how to express herself visual better than any other artist in music and no one can deny that. I also don't understand when people say controversy added to her success. The more controversial she became, the less she sold, yet she still kept it up. Madonna didn't take chances ? Are you kidding me ? Her entire career has been a gamble. Britney and Christina aren't even doing half of the things she use to do years down the line. Madonna worked hard for her success and deserves every award she has gotten. She can honestly say her career is her career because she has called the shots in every area of it. She's always the only female in the top 10 in list of the greatest artist in music. She's always up there with the big guns like MJ, The Beatles, and Elvis. Madonna is the most famous woman alive because she wanted to be and did it. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Give the bitch credit. She's 46 and still doing sell out tours. She's contributed more to popular culture than most artist ever have and she's still contributing. It's getting to the point where ever female artist who comes out is saying she's their idol. Britney, Christina, Pink, Lindsay ... you may not like these artist but you have to admit, that's power. She's very influencial and will be talked about forever.
Great Post You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna
