Wham!---The best band of the last 25 years?

Okay, I could be completely off base here but does not Wham! deserve consideration as one of the best, if not the best, band of the last quarter century. Can you possibly listen to "Wake Me Up Before Yo Go-Go" without tapping your toes? Does not "Careless Whisper" completely capture the longing and loss of love? Does "Freedom" not make you glad you are free? Does "Edge of Heaven" not just take you to...well you get my point. With the elegant vocals of Sir George Michael backed up by the fabulous, incomparable guitar work of Mr. Andrew Ridgeley, Esquire, the force that was Wham! owned the early 80's and could have continued to dominate if Sir George had not decided to break up the championship tandem to go solo. Sure his solo career blew up large but he was never the same without Ridgeley, who was arguably the more talented of the two. Sure Ridgeley's "Son of Albert" sold only 157 copies (one of which I have proudly displayed in my CD collection) but he was so much more than "the other guy from Wham!". If George was the heart of Wham!, Andrew was the soul. Like Ying and Yang, the two complemented one another and I believe Michael has been searching for his Yang ever since he left his multi-talented partner.

Wham!---underappreciated? Wham!---the best band of the 80's? Wham!--the originators of Gangster Rap (listen to "Wham Rap" if you don't believe me)?
Wham---the definition of greatness?

Okay, I have listened to all of your clever retorts and Wham! bashing and offer only this as a reply:

Wham! is rubber and you are glue and whatver you say about Wham! bounces off of Wham! and sticks back to you.

George and Andy don't listen...they just don't understand.

Well they were a brilliant pop act, and I hate it how George Michael used to dismiss it all. Such a huge string of classics in such a short time. I adore them.

Yeah george does dismiss those days when he could write a good pop song. As after "listen without...." which was self indulgent enough (though still good), his shit got dull.

Dude needs to talk about something other then his "demons" or whatever.

I have thought about this for the last few hours and come to an even more definite conclusion: screw the Beatles, Wham! is the best band ever.

I expect some disagreement but will summarily dismiss it.

r u fucking kidding!!!

Wham sucks moose cock (and probably would if there was one present)

Andrew Ridgely didn't sing a a word and their songs, and didn't even plug in his guitar when they had concerts!!

That alone sends them to the back of the line.

Classic pictures of an historic era, now long gone. The pictures make me both very happy and very sad. The bathing suits make me nervous and yet oddly and inexplicably excited. The haircuts are timeless. George Michaels shorts in the last pic are undoubtedly giving him a wedgie, which makes him all the more interesting and fascinating. And I am not sure what George Michael is doing in the fourth picture but it looks like he's having fun and isn't that what is important.

Mr. Andrew Ridgeley, Esquire to you, buddy, and not only was he the real talent in Wham! but he may be one of the most underrated musicians of all time. He did not need the guitar to be plugged up. The audience could hear his soul coming straight through his unfairly muted guitar.

With Andy, his silence was truly golden.
