Downloading is too much trouble. First of all, it takes over an hour to download a song. During the time of the download, it makes the computer go real slow if you go into other sites. Also, if you go into other sites, it slows the download down. I don't have the patience. I would much rather go into the record store, buy the CD, and eliminate all the hassle. Also, you don't have the artwork that goes along with it with the download.

I only used to download songs that are absolutely not available in record stores such as megamixes and ultimixes and hot tracks remixes of old songs. When my CD burner was working, I then would have to roll the computer over to the stereo, pull out the heavy ass entertainment center, sort through the wires in the back, and burn the songs onto CD. CD burners for the stereo are still too expensive so I haven't replaced my old worn out one and I will not buy an inexpensive one for the computer because I have to run my recovery disc once every few weeks to wipe out viruses. This wipes everything else out of the computer also including the internet, which I have to put back in each time. I even had to delete Kazaa from my computer altogether because it made it run extremely slow.

The computer era still has way too many flaws and to successfully avoid these flaws is too expensive. I hope the actual act of buying music from the record stores never dies out.

wow yall jumped on this one fassst.

voices carry, i think u missed this part of my post:

Don't you think if there wasn't a bit of a...demand, for it, then it wouldn't exist? These artists are just supplying what the majority wants. If the record labels wasn't lookin for these kind of people, and if the public wasn't buyin their records, then they wouldn't exist

i understand where ur comming from, but as u can see if u wanna be successful in the biz now and days and make some $$$$ then u have to play by their rules. playin by their rules doesn't mean making classic, thought provoking or different music. following their rules means to make a hit and follow the formula. and we all know what that formula is: get naked, bang bang shoot em up, my man dogged me, i can love u better, i got my 9 locked and loaded, etc..etc.. thats the formula

I don't think we understand the pressures on an artist to create radio/video-ready hits just to please:

*boardrooms of label executives trying to reach a certain sales quota this quarter...
*radio programmers that only want catchy, non-challenging shit...
*distribution channels that only want to carry large bulk orders of highly commercial products...

because THOSE people have to be pleased before your music even gets out to the public.

exactly cinistercee! in the end its all about the $$$$. everybody wants to make that money. some just wanna make it in the music biz. now and days u aint gonna make no dollars or gettin promoted making a housequake, whats goin on, or billie hean. u gonna make them dollars and get promoted by making a in the club, trapped in the closet, and hotel. cuz thats what the majority want. maybe if we stopped minority and actually did something a change would come.
the problem is a) some people want this and b) the labels are capitolising on that fact. they see this is whats sells so they're milking it for all its worth.

and voices it aint just the teens demanding this stuff. ( and yes they ARE demanding it and they DO know better, u cannot TELL me that there is a teen in america that hasn't been exposed to the old school. THEY HAVE they either don't like it or choose to ignore it)i'm 14 goin on 15 and i hate the majority of whats out. by i got cousins in their 30's and i had teachers in their twenties that LOVE this stuff.
Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...

So I think it is less about demand from a certain age demographic than it is a brainwashing in trends/tastes in music.

I bought some rare Prince maxi single CDs once from a site but I can't remember the name of it. The name of the site was a three letter word beginning with an "E". I found the link on dawnation.com. I didn't have any problems with this site that I know of.

A few years later, I bought my CD players and turntables off the internet because ones with pitch control are impossible to find in the stores. Shortly after that, telemarketers started harrassing the hell out of me at home and at work. A friend of mine told me that the site probably gave my name to other sites and telemarketers trying to make a sell.

Now I try to avoid ordering off the internet if at all possible. I usually get my local record store to order it for me.

ohhh brainwashing..i dunno...thats kinda touchy...everytime i read that word on here i just go eek ...cuz the whole thought of being brainwashed into liking something just doesn't seem realistic to me. what i think it is is that people just really like this stuff. thats the only thing that makes sense to me. i don't understand why they like it, but the only thing that makes sense is that they do. i definately think overexposure might have a bit of something to do with it tho. now whether thats brainwashing, i'm not sure, but there are some songs that i just heard so much that i started likin them a bit (50 just a little bit comes to mind), so is that brainwashing? cuz if so than yea thats def. goin on

No, I didn't miss it. As I already said several times, I blame the labels wholeheartedly for foisting crap on us. But there are good artists (which I support) out there getting released by major labels, so no, you don't have to whore yourself to be successful in the mainstream because at the end of the day you're still just a whore, nothing better. I only blame artists who whore themselves out, not those who maintain their artistic integrity. The ones that do are not getting played on the radio due to conglomerate dominance of that format, but may be selling respectable numbers (ex: BECK).

The record industry is an industry and therefore has always been about the $$$$ and nothing more. It's just that they are currently choosing to neglect the older demographic that used to do boffo business for them. Every now and then, they throw them a bone like Norah Jones, and they'll sell 8 million (!) - that should tell you what an untapped market this is. Again, you're babbling on about a "majority" that clearly doesn't exist outside of the 12-25 demographic. Stop it.

Really? Proof? I have met maybe one or two in my high school years. The majority (there's that word again!) knew fuck all about music. They grew up with shit, and that's what they know. All the ignorant dudes pumping around in their dads' SUV's blaring 50 cent out the speakers are not educated about music, period.

They weren't bootlegs. lol One was a 3 inch CD (they didn't have the standard size) of the 12 Inch remix of "Little Red Corvette" (a 12 Inch that I searched for desperately back in the day but could never find). The other was the CD maxi single remix of "The Future" which also included a remix of "Electric Chair".

EIL is a great site. It can be very expensive, but their 7'' vinyl can be pretty cheap, too. Also, their stuff is always in damn perfect condition.

Lots of great Janet stuff there. boxed

Yep, that's it. I took a chance when I ordered it because I didn't know if my CD player would play it because it's so little but it did. It looks funny as hell. It reminds me of those little record albums by popular artists made of bubble gum that they used to make in the early 1980s. lol

I heart 3'' CD's. Germany and Japan were hotspots for them, but they also had a limited popularity in the US, too. Most CD players still come with those little depressions in the 5'' tray for 3'' CD's.

Oh, BTW vainandy, a reputable site will not sell your personal info or share it with any other organization. Big sites like Amazon, cdjapan.com, or any HMV site are very safe. I've never had any trouble with 'em.
