Coldplay

I was given a copy of the Cd Parachutes by Coldplay a few months ago and think that it is great. What does everyone think of this CD and what other bands have a similar sound.

mmm, sounds always to me like a ripoff of Travis. Another one of that sentimental, vulnurable, melancholic british bands of youngsters. but you know what? TROUBLE kicks ass.
tears in my eyes...

I got hooked on Coldplay after defunct TV show "Roswell" used a few of their tracks... my favorites are "Yellow" and "Trouble."

Anyone got any recommendations on similar sounding music? (Now that Roswell is cancelled, I no longer have a good source for melancholic depressing white music sad )

check out Starsailor - another UK-Band. Beautiful music - maybe you've heard ALCAHOLIC? beautiful! Or get VEGA 4, a bit harder but also very good.
And the most beautiful of course: SIGUR ROS - an icelandic band that sings with their native tongue. very chilling, melancholic stuff.

Hey...

If you liked Coldplay stay tuned for their new album Aug 16 called A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD

In the meantime...this Tuesday (June 4) I urge you to run (not walk) to the nearest record store and buy the new album from THE DOVES!!! It's called "THE LAST BROADCAST" and it is AMAZING!!! I actually enjoyed it more than Coldplay...I love Coldplay but it's so moody I could only play it at certain times...THE DOVES is great for any mood!!! My fav trax are "Words", "Caught By The River", and "There Goes The Fear"...you shouldnt be disapointed!!! If you get it in the next couple of weeks..it will have a bonus CD with 4 unrelleased trax!!!

Other great recomendations out now:

RADIOHEAD-The Bends (this album came out back in '94 but you can really hear alot of elements these new UK chaps are using today...)
STARSAILOR-Love Is Here
ED HARTCOURT-Here Be Monsters
TRAVIS-The Man Who
TRAVIS-The Invisible Band
SENSE FIELD-Tonight & Forever (Not British but very similar!)
Every minute of last night is on my face today....

If you like Coldplay, check out Travis, Doves, and even Radiohead (OK Computer). I love all these bands...yes they all kinda sound the same, but all of their albums are kind of hypnotic.
