Bob Marley appreciation thread My second favourite artist of all time, Bob Marley, was a prolific songwriter who wrote songs that spoke to the people, and spoke the truth in a very poetic way. Like Prince, he mixed his base style (reggae) with rock and roll (Roots Rock Reggae)and gained crossover appeal and propelled him to international stardom. no reggae artist before him has ever acheived this, and none after. It was the rock aspect in his music that sets him apart from his peers (as does Prince) and to this day, his music sounds as fresh as it was back in the 1970s.
Any other Marley fans on this board? Good morning Ladies & Gentlemen,

I think just about everyone's a Bob Marley fan. He's the reason I started listening to reggae. The man influenced so many artists(listen to early Police).
Like Stevie Wonder, a TRUE musical genius.

Some of my fave Marley songs are: Concrete Jungle, Guava Jelly, I'm Hurting Inside, High Tide Low Tide, Natural Mystic, Easy Skankin', Trenchtown Rock, ... so many! Good morning Ladies & Gentlemen,

Man, Exodus just rocks! After listening to that masterpiece and finally the whole Songs Of Freedom boxset, I really want to listen to more. I guess I'll pick up a copy of Catch A Fire and Burnin'. Check me out and add me on:

Well, that boxset is 99% perfect because it basically covers all the bases from the early years to the Uprising-era. Check me out and add me on:

Timeless artist...music will be just as fresh and inspirational 50 years from now. One of the all-time greats.
His music was the partial soundtrack to my college days. I had one roommate who played Marley all the time in his room and another who played The Sundays all time in theirs. I preffered Bob but developed an affection for The Sundays that I cannot explain. of course, I would drown both their CD players out with cuts from "Diamonds and Pearls". All good things they say never last...

It would be interesting to speculate what direction Marley would have taken his music if he hadn't died. Reggae has gone downhill since his death. The old-school dancehall stuff in the early 90s was cool for a few years, but now, much like hip hop and R&B, its mostly crap. Good morning Ladies & Gentlemen,

I grew up on Bob Marley and the Wailin Wailers...
Up to this day I still love to listen to his stuff, especially the Roxy concert of 1976 (if I'm not mistaken on the year) I also dig the four cd box that was released about 6 years ago, as it contains lots of his older stuff, which I like too.

Yeah, disc 1 of that boxset really had some stuff I've never heard before, but I loved most of it. I never knew that The Wailers made an early version of Stir It Up. Unbelivable... His legacy has been treated with great respect. His reissues are really great value. I cannot recommend the Live at The Rainbow DVD highly enough.

The guy who cuts my hair plays a heavy, lethal dose of Mr. Marley everytime I go in there. And I'd rather hear him then 1/2 the stuff I hear on the radio now. Bob Marley's stuff is still hittin' now as it was back then. And his message still stands today. A bio-pic on him is definetly long overdue.

Bob Marley is a rapist! He raped his wife whem she refused to have sex with him because he was sleeping with so many other women.

That's what I'm saying. Because, the worst that I heard is that he has babies all over the world b/c he has a strong sexual appetite that can't be satified by one wife which is true.

True that, Legsbaby..That's the MOST I've heard about Bob Marley also. I've heard rape stories/rumours about Sam Cooke and unfortunately Sly Stone, but I've never heard or read anything on Bob Marley..Not even from Rita Marley. That's why I was curious to know where he got that information from.

It was, wasn't it. It did way more for me than that stoopid tribute album, even though the family was involved.
