Yep, he has a very fine voice, no doubt nod I also have some of his solo output, I don't have the CDs at hand and I don't rembmer details, but there were some really soulful songs on some of those.. I will have a closer look later

many folks see him as the source of all evil, cause when he joined Kool & the Gang their hardcore funk changed for a slick and poppy disco sound, but hey... that was not JTs fault! he just provided the vocals, but was not responsible for the sound of the music, so what?
I see Kool & the Gang pre and post JT almost as a totally different band, and once I stopped comparing those two I didn't have a problem at all with the later version and their sound. But hey, what do I know? after all I also enjoy KC & the Sunshine Band and Saturday Night Fever lol
Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

He's a superb vocalist. He doesn't get enough credit for the stuff he did with Kool and The Gang. Thanks to him,Kool and The Gang were able to tackle some killer ballads and midtempo jams...

"Got You Into My Life" (1979)
"Too Hot" (1979)
"Jones Vs.Jones" (1980)
"Take My Heart (You Can Have It If You Want It)" (1981)
"No Show" (1981)
"Joanna" (1983)

Not me. I love both the disco and the funk. I must admit, I love disco Kool & The Gang more than funky Kool & The Gang though. lol

YES! Absolutely right. Without J.T., Kool and the Gang would never have had their 80's success. "Too Hot" *still* kills me.

JT Taylor (along with Kool & The Gang) should be an ICON on the same level as Michael, Prince, & Madonna. THAT band were hugely popluar from 1979-1987!!:

Celebration
Ladies Night
Too Hot
Get Down On It
Steppin' Out
Joanna
Tonight
Let's Go Dancing (Ooh, La, La, La)
Misled
Fresh
Cherish (12" Version)

And if you're a true funk solider, you can't sleep on Kool & The Gang during the 1969-1977 era (before JT Taylor). THE horn sections could kick ass at will:

Jungle Boogie
Funky Stuff
Hollywood Swinging
Spirit Of The Boogie
Summer Madness

At one time, I thought JT Taylor & Donnie Simpson were either brothers or cousins because they both look so much alike. cool

When they got JT he helped the get to another level. The cat had a nice voice. They came to my hometown back in the day on the Love Fest. Tour (the album that had Celebration, Jones Vs. Jones etc..) with the Gap Band opening up & turned it out but there was a stabbing to where the guy died and they never came bach here until they had Bobby Harris (The Dazz Band) on vocals and he just dudn't fit. With JT they came back to a festival here back in 1999-2000 and they looked like they hadn't lost a step. Hollywood Swinging followed by Jungle Boogie kicked off the show & the shit was on!!
