Anita Baker

I been trying to find my next fave soul singer--i decided to go back a little bit and someone in the wreka stow suggested Anita Baker. I bought Raputre and have only spun it once and I wasn't immediately sucked in but I can tell she's got a great voice and I hope to get more into it.

Anyone got info on what Anita's best tracks/performances are? Anyone seen her live? Gimme the scoop.

If I dig Erykah and Jilly from Philly is she a good choice?
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

I wouldn't compare her to Erykah or Jill - she's more Sultry smooth jazz but she is definitely Dope music I love her personality and her songs -- her Performences are rare because she's alot like Lauryn Hill when it comes to the public eye but she's amazing My favorites are
Sweet Love
Rapture
Same ol Love
I apologize
I even love her new album check it out:

There's no way you can compare Erkah, Jill to Anita b/c these sistahs are in a class by themselves. Plus, Anita has been in the game a much longer and paid much more does than these sistas. My favorite songs by Anita are: Whatever It Takes, Same Ol Love, Heart & Soul, Good Love, Been So Long, and Giving You The Best That I Got.

Anita Baker's da bomb! I grew up on Rapture and Giving You The Best That I Got so I can't help but get sentimental with her music. Rapture is one of my favorite albums ever. I'm glad she's still performing.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Personally, Rapture is my favorite Anita album. You should get into that some more. Great bedtime music.

"Compositions" is my stuff, too.

Actually all of her albums are worth getting, but Rapture is still the standout album for me and a good starting point for sure. The quality of songs there is just A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

I love "No More Tears"!!!!! Probably her most impressive vocal performance ever.

Actually, her music bores me more than Whitney Houston's music. I can't stand Whitney for opening the floodgates for "adult contemporary" R&B music to take over R&B radio in the late 1980s but at least Whitney had a nice voice.....it's just the type of music she does that I can't stand. Anita's music bores me more and I can't stand her voice either.

That's the only song of her's that I can tolerate. I never heard it until the 1990s and I was shocked when someone told me that she was the one that sang it.

My Top Five favorite songs by her...

"Mystery"(1986)
"No One In The World" (1986)(remember the Spike Lee-directed video?)
"Good Love"(1988)
"Just Because" (1988)
"You Belong To Me"(1988)(not to be confused with her 1990 remake of the Carly Simon classic)

The entire 'Rapture' album is heavenly...an R&B classic music

On her latest CD,I love the duet with Babyface (can't recall the title)

Oh God!!! Since I opened this thread, that horrible song, I think it's called "Bedtime Stories", is playing in my head and I can't get it out. I see visons of a 6 foot tall drag queen in a beaded gown, with huge hands and size 14 pumps on a stage lipsyncing that song. Oh, the horror!!!!!

Lawd have mercy Vain Baby. The impact of seeing poorly done drag by Westley Snipes stays with you. Trust me, I know b/c I saw the drag movie he did again while turning through the channels on cable and it turned my stomach ill. Some people didn't recognize or appreciate the true genius of Rupaul.
