Whats this? Felt 2: A Tribute to Lisa Bonet Minneapolis' Rhymesayers collective must have a hell of a time keeping score of their own side projects: In this one, the generally emo-leaning MCs Slug and Murs (along with '70s funk-obsessed producer Ant) revive their ad hoc outfit Felt for a sequel of sorts to the 2002 EP "A Tribute to Christina Ricci."
Sadly, titular love is all Denise Huxtable gets here (including a track with the typically noggin-scratching subhead "Never Easy on My Nextel"). But in the meantime, the Midwestern underground heroes put the occasionally exhausting emo-rap aside for a platter of party bangers that Dr. Cliff might even dig. This is an old-school-glimpsing swirl of pure braggadocio ("Somewhere between Pro Tools and a gold tooth") and the occasional pronouncement of a wish to live more like Morris Day, with frequent detours into Slug's habit of clawing at his old girlfriend. "Bonet" is never sure how serious it is, but, side project or not, it does stay varied and smartly vitriolic, like when Murs claims he's "got more rhymes than rappers who got shot." --Jeff Vrabel http://www.billboard.com/...1000988607 (sounds interesting, anyone care to give info on Felt..?)
