Millie Jackson: The Hot,Wild,Unrestricted,Crazy R&B Diva

I first discovered the music of Millie Jackson in 1979.I was messing around with my fathers' 8-track tapes, and I came across her album 'A Moment's Pleasure'.Boy was I surprised when I played it! I had never heard this stuff on the radio. The songs were very "adult-oriented" with the occasional cuss words thrown in...lol...one track in particular "What Went Wrong Last Night" is totally outrageous! It's a soulful ballad in which Millie's man has left her and she is feeling all depressed. But Part Two turns into an uptempo disco number as Millie decides to "get fine, get dressed,go out and DISCO!".The song then takes you to the disco with her,and it is hilarious.I grew to really love this album. It includes many other gems like "Rising Cost Of Love",the lite-disco hit single"Never Change Lovers In The Middle Of The Night" and a superb ballad "Seeing You Again" that really shows off her incredibly soulful vocals.Eventually,I collected many other albums by her. She's got an amazing sense of humor, and you haven't lived until you have heard one of her trademark "raps"....the outrageous spoken segments of her songs.

What do you guys think of Millie? I know there are alot of fans here on this site.

Before Madonna, it was Millie Jackson that really change the game for the women in the music industry by the use of explict lyrics. And she also was an earlier rap artist.

Phuck U Symphony was crazy! cool

Now, for alot of the org regulars, you know Vain and I are fans of Ms. Mille. This is simply because she speaks her mind and is a real woman and can sing her butt off. One of my favorite songs by her was Hurts So Good from the Cleopatra Jones Soundtrack. As a kid, I remember my parents going to see her and Johnnie Taylor perform.

I dig Millie i'm a huge fan of the earlier stuff 72-75.
She has a live remote radio show from her home in the ATL that airs during the week here in Dallas Tx.

Rhino (always a good choice) put out...

...Totally Unrestricted: The Millie Jackson Anthology (if that's the one you're referring to.)

All good cuts but only one live (Phuck U Symphony).
Live, where she can react to the audience, is where the original Miss Jackson if you're nasty is at her best.

Here I am! biggrin

I love Millie Jackson. She is just the kind of diva I love....a wild, loud mouth, shit talking, bad ass bitch that don't take no shit. She is one of the few artists I know that can take someone else's song and completely turn it around and turn it into her song. Her "raps" are absolutely my favorite.

For anyone wanting to know where to start with Millie, pick this one up:

"Live and Unscensored/Live and Outrageous" (The CD that Tony Van Dam posted).

This collection contains two live albums of Millie's, "Live and Unscensored" from 1979 and "Live and Outrageous" from 1982. If you're thinking that Millie talks the same shit live as she does on her albums.....think again. She changes the rap up in the live versions and talks completely different shit that you haven't heard her talk before.

Can anyone tell me the name of a particular Millie Jackson song? I heard it on the radio during the "Lunchtime Oldies" and was shocked to hear it. During Millie's "rap", I couldn't figure out if she was talking about what she wants or if she was telling these men to get themselves a sissy. lol I only heard a few seconds of the song.

My friend that was with me when I heard it, said it was "All The Way Lover". I have that song on her "Live and Uncensored" album but I didn't hear that part. Is this line on a studio version of song? If so, which album is it on or is it available on a greatest hits collection?

"All The Way Lover" is the opening track on her 1977 album 'Feelin Bitchy'

but you can also find it on the 2-CD Anthology that TA mentioned. It's a lengthy song (about 10 minutes or so) with a neverending "rap".
