That shit will NEVER happen. Trust me. They ain't foolish enough to let a white cat host 106 & Park. They learned their lesson when they let my white homie host Comic View and it flopped and they dropped his ass just like I told him they would.

Hopefully TVOne will end up making a better showing.

But of those of you complaining, how many of y'all wrote in to BET demanding better shows and more respectable images of Blacks? Hmmm?
See, it's easy to bash them but where were you when the shit was goin' down? Be a part of the solution and not the problem. Simply "turning the channel" isn't gonna help. Be active about change.

hmmm Let's keep in mind that BET is owned by Viacom so anything is possible.

I really miss the days when black artists weren't looked down upon for playing a musical instrument and singing.Don't get me wrong, I like alot of hip hop too but I hate the fact that BET's daytime hours focus on mainly and very little more that while the twilight hours are for "Neo Soul"(that's code for black people singing without bling). sad

Remember back when during the course of Video Soul's 2 hour program you could see Prince, the Time, Sheila E, Whitney Houston, Public Enemy, Salt and Pepa,Lenny Kravitz, Anita Baker,Rick James, Shabba Ranks, Patra, Sade, Robert Palmer,Luthor Vandross, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson and a diverse host of others?

To get the topic back on track, I saw the repeat of yesterday's show and it was sad to see AJ get emotional over leaving. I am covinced that something happened just by some of the words that he said. It seems like it was sudden. The comments on this thread have been on point and excellent. It just goes to show you that when the programmers put quality on TV, people will watch it and remember it but like I've said over and over, as long a Viacom is involved it'll be about creating a black MTV. If you compare BET and MTV today, they virtually have the same shows, it's just that you see black folks in all the roles on BET. We talk about no origiality in music, well it seem like the same can be said about TV too. Pathetic.

If my memory is correct, Robert Johnson, the founder of BET, sold BET over to Viacom in 2001. I don't know how much money he received but it's safe to say it was in the hundreds of millions. He just announced on the BET Awards last month that he was stepping down from the CEO spot or something like that and passing the torch to a female who's name escapes me. I remember people here were concerned about BET's future and where it was going to go. Most here believed it was going to become more like MTV and unfortunately they were "dead on it".

Don't be surprise if years from now Viacon renames BET to MTV3!!!

Now I know alot of you want to say they've BEEN over with, but no there has still been a little tiny light of life still shining from them. Lets take a took a look at all of the shows and people that made BET worth while

Teen Summit, Tavis Smiley, Ed Gordan, Cita's World, Hits From The Streets, Live In LA, Big Lez, Joe Clair, and many other shit.

Today we learned that AJ & Free will no longer be on 106 & Park (AJ was crying on the show today cause it was their last day and he was wearing a T-Shirt that said "Still Free"; Free wasnt there, but shes been abscent for weeks - I heard she wasnt happy about something which leads me to believe that something is going on behind the scenes. But other than that, they took Tigga off of Rap City Basement and gave it to weak ass Mad Linx. There has been talk of them taking "Bet Nightly News" off and replacing it with a "MTV News"-type of thing where they show up like once every hour.

And then there's the re-runs of "The Parkers" and "Girlfriends." Why...? Does MTV show re-runs of "Step By Step" and "Boy Meets World"??? Does CMT show re-runs of the "Andy Griffth Show" or "Little House Of the Praire"???

Viacom is fucking this channel up.

Shit, Cita's World and 106 & Park marked the down turn of BET. And when they started running "Vintage BET" and it was a 106 & Park show from 2 years ago, I knew it was time for a change. I hope they blow the whole thing up and start over. Really, it couldn't be any worse than what it's been the last 6-8 years. BET needs to move away from being COON-TV. I have no problem with programming for a younger set but not 24/7. IMO here's what BET should do:

Week day afternoon/evenings:

1:00 Oh Drama. Or some show geared towards black females 30+

2:00 Video Vibrations. Showing today's top R&B videos

3:00 Rap City. Showing today's top rap videos

4:00 - Bring back a Teen Summit type show. Something that addresses the issues of the day from a young black perspective.

4:30 - A New 106 & Park. Rename it at take away the studio audience. Make it Video Soul for the 25 and under crowd.

6:00 - BET News.

6:30 - A black version of something like Entertainment Tonight

7:00 - Video Soul w/ Donnie Simpson. Just like the old show but with the focus on new and old Soul/R&B. So Donnie would have guests like Maxwell, Teena Marie, Raphael Saadiq, Mariah, etc.

8:30 - Keep this half hour for original programming. All these other cable stations are coming with first run series, it's time BET does the same. Have a "Chappell" type show one night. Then some sort of reality show on another. Too bad the Bobby Brown thing is on Bravo and Rick James is dead. I hear Mike Tyson is free.

9:00 - More original programing. And if you keep Comic View please improve this shit for god's sake.

10:00 - The New Arsenio Hall Show. Serious, why isn't he on TV. This show would be a huge hit. Woof, woof, woof

11:00 - Tavis Smiley Show. As soon as this cat is available, lock him down and get this show on BET

12:00 - Re-air 7:00-11:00 block for west coast.

Weekends

Classic Video Soul. What's cheaper than programing you already have produce. Plus everyone knows old folks are home on Saturday nights.

Classic Video Vibrations. See above

Some sort of Jazz program. A Jazz "video soul" if you will. Only with live performances too.

Move Uncut to Saturday night. One night a week is enough. I mean really, there are only so many cheap ass booty videos you can take.

In Living Color Reruns

And can we please get What's Happening back on the air.

So there you have it Viacom. I did all the hard work for you. Now get moving. I want my BET!

I've written to BET, my local newspapers, and my local radio stations about the stuff our kids are exposed to. I have also written about it here. But, for the last five years, the majority of folks obviously thought this shit was okay for their kids because the audience is always full of teenagers. My kids cannot watch that stuff, period.

No lie, I was talking to a freind of mine last night before this thread came out and we were talking about MTV and VH1 and how bad it is today and I was thinking about writing to them about the shows and music. Now with this thread, I convinced that we need to be some writing and calling fools with Viacom. What's the worst that can happen with that?

What do US networks offer when it comes to 'honest/real' black entertainment theses days?

Great. rolleyes

So it's more insensitive to make fun of gays and Mexicans than it is to make fun of all Caucasians?
