BET is officially done!

Now I know alot of you want to say they've BEEN over with, but no there has still been a little tiny light of life still shining from them. Lets take a took a look at all of the shows and people that made BET worth while

Teen Summit, Tavis Smiley, Ed Gordan, Cita's World, Hits From The Streets, Live In LA, Big Lez, Joe Clair, and many other shit.

Today we learned that AJ & Free will no longer be on 106 & Park (AJ was crying on the show today cause it was their last day and he was wearing a T-Shirt that said "Still Free"; Free wasnt there, but shes been abscent for weeks - I heard she wasnt happy about something which leads me to believe that something is going on behind the scenes. But other than that, they took Tigga off of Rap City Basement and gave it to weak ass Mad Linx. There has been talk of them taking "Bet Nightly News" off and replacing it with a "MTV News"-type of thing where they show up like once every hour.

And then there's the re-runs of "The Parkers" and "Girlfriends." Why...? Does MTV show re-runs of "Step By Step" and "Boy Meets World"??? Does CMT show re-runs of the "Andy Griffth Show" or "Little House Of the Praire"???

Viacom is fucking this channel up.

No, MTV shows reruns of Veronica Mars and CMT shows reruns of Dukes of Hazzard.

Do they show them for two hours straight everyday?

i washed my hands of them after that fluff, soft-ball interview they did with Jermaine Jackson... "the Victory Verdict" or something like that.

that "reporter" let him get away with a LOT of b.s., unchallenged.

Well, BET was one of the few, if not only, music stations that pulled Eminem's video after MJ whined about it. Doubt they'd do any serious reporting when it comes to the Jackson clan.

By "serious reporting" do you mean Jackson bashing like all the other stations? Does it bother you that they choose not to beat a dead horse or join the "klan" of stations that already make the same tired ass comments?

BET is horrible now, anyway.
They may give 106th to Tigger. He's the only one left with enough personality to host it. I thought that corny little airhead Julissa was getting way too much airtime for some reason. She's a terrible host. She can't read the teleprompter for sh*t. ALWAYS making mistakes and ALWAYS laughing when there's nothing funny. She sounds like a cheerleader instead of a host. BET isn't anything more than another video channel these days. Black people will move on from it.

last time i watched BET with any kind of regularity was when they had that "oh drama" show and they had some kind of improv sketch comedy show that was actually really funny. i used to dig comic view too, but they started to get REALLY out of hand to where i thought it had become just kind of mean-spirited and trashy for trashy's sake.

Comic View used to be really funny back when D.L. Hughley was hosting it at the Normandie Casino in GARDENA, CALIFORNIA (shoutout to my hometown*! LOL) :::composes self::: There were a lot of great comedians back then. Cedric The Entertainer was an up-and-coming talent. I liked it up until the Blackberry Inn season (the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice). I used to stay up and watch that.

Afterwards, the subsequent seasons got really bad. That show went downhill when they took it away from the Normandie Casino and went down south. They started telling a bunch of Southern jokes and "Church" jokes. That guy Ricky Smiley wasn't as good a host as D.L.

The material got tired after a while. How many "white people" jokes are we gonna hear? Then a lot of times it got insensitive with the "retarded people act like this," "gays act like this," "Messicans act like this" nuts We always love when the white comedian comes on and plays the role of the dorky white guy. Great. rolleyes

Have you noticed that comedy overall has become more mean-spirited and vulgar than ever? The comedy channel is the closest thing to HBO on television. They get away with MUCH MUCH MUCH more than they should. They get downright x-rated sometimes. If you have kids, you can't let them watch the comedy channel unsupervised. BET's comicview is trying to keep up. Like I said, BET is crap now. Has been for years. They lost me when they took away Tavis.

i think the daily show is probably the funniest show on television right now, but yeah - most comedy on tv is pretty awful these days. either it's too mean or it's so sickly sweet it'll make you go into a sugar coma.

To think that BET turns 25 this year. They (Viacom) are doing a horrendous job with the station and they are tarnishing the legacy of BET. There will never be another Video Soul or Video Vibrations or Teen Summit or anything with real substance as long as Viacom has it's hands on it. Shame on Robert Johnson for being so damn greedy.

Just my twocents.

If my memory is correct, Robert Johnson, the founder of BET, sold BET over to Viacom in 2001. I don't know how much money he received but it's safe to say it was in the hundreds of millions. He just announced on the BET Awards last month that he was stepping down from the CEO spot or something like that and passing the torch to a female who's name escapes me. I remember people here were concerned about BET's future and where it was going to go. Most here believed it was going to become more like MTV and unfortunately they were "dead on it".

For real right? I didn't watch Rap City much when it started but when I did, I got a kick out of "the mayor".

Video Vibrations is my all time favorite BET Show. Two hours of videos with only a narrator. I remember many times seeing an hour long block of Prince videos.

Yea, Video Vibrations was one of my favorite shows. Planet Groove (and Rachael was soooo beautiful) was too.

And I think "Growns Folks Music" should at least be two hours long since its all old school video.

Here some info on AJ & Free leaving 106 & Park
-----
http://www.allhiphop.com/...s/?ID=4660

On Thursday, AJ Calloway and Free officially resigned their posts as the hosts of BET's popular show "106 & Park," jobs they have held since the show's premier in the fall of 2000.

The circumstances surrounding their abrupt departure have not been disclosed, but insiders speculate there has been friction with upper management in recent weeks. Representatives for BET didn't respond for a request for comment at press time.

On the live show, AJ tearfully told the audience, "I got really emotional…There's nothing like 106 & Park, its been a staple in the African American community for a long, long time. Five years strong and hopefully it will continue with whoever's in the reigns without myself and Free."

The show started when BET moved most of its entertainment-based shows to Harlem in 2000. At the time, "106 & Park" was located on the Harlem street corner of the same name. In March of 2002, the company moved its base into Viacom's CBS Broadcast Center in Manhattan.

AJ revealed that his plans included opening up a restaurant in Brooklyn, running a management company and, in previous reports, said he was working on a television pilot. He also disclosed that Free's official web site would be re-erected in the near future. It has been rumored that Free has decided to follow her rap career, which had been dormant until she rapped on the Ying Yang Twins “Wait (remix).”

No replacements have been named.

"Its not the last time you will see us…you might see us somewhere else," AJ concluded. "We love y’all. Live, love life."
-----

And in addition to that, I just heard that Jacque Reid (from Bet Nightly News) has resigned too - but I dont know about that for sure yet.

I loved Video Vibrations too. I remember that it got to a point that they had to spend 2 days on Prince for the Monday Marathons they used to do. Planet Groove was cool too. Grown Folks Music should be on every night as far as I'm concerned but the great evil known as Viacom still has their hands on it and it'll never happen thanks to them.

From the special I saw of his on the "N" word, I thought it was really good and I missed the one on obesity. The show should be on every week not once every 6 months the way they have it.

Yeah, but 106 & Park was one of the best shows on BET despite their lil top 10 countdown which is determined by the 14-year-old around the world. I agree about the Cousin Jeff, but the problem with that is he stops by Rap City more than his own show comes one. Its like his show doesnt even officially exist - the Cousin Jeff Chronicles right now is more like a "special" that comes on from time to time. Ridiculous. And like I said earlier, BET Nightly News is about to be replaced with "new flashes". Its Viacom making BET more MTV-friendly.

I wish everything and everybody that left BET would go over to TV1 and do it the way its supposed to be done.
