When I'm feeling down, I like to spin a compilation I made in 2001 called "contemplation." (note the lowercase "C").

No Doubt - Magic's In The Makeup
3 Doors Down - Loser
Luscious Jackson - Why Do I Lie?
PJ Harvey - Perfect Day Elise
Sophie B. Hawkins - Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover
Bonnie Raitt - I Can't Make You Love Me
K.D. Lang - Constant Craving
Joan Osbourne - One Of Us
Garbage - Special
Shery Crow - A Change (this is when the CD starts to get more optimistic)
Sheryl Crow - My Favorite Mistake
Human League - Human
No Doubt - Simple Kind Of Life
Third Eye Blind - An Ode To Maybe
No Doubt - Bathwater
REM - Shiny Happy People (I closed the CD with this, it's optimistic, upbeat, yet wistful at the same time)

Shiny Happy People is one of my favorite songs by REM. I love how Micheal Stipes combines harmonies with the lady from the B52's.

Another compilation I have when I feel blue is entitled "Mood 2". This is the CD I play when I want to wallow in something and cry it out. It's very purging.

Amel Larrieux - Makes Me Whole
Brandy - Brokenhearted (album version)
TLC - I Miss You So Much
Angela Bofill - Song For A Rainy Day
Meshell Ndegeocello - Beautiful
Christina Aguilera - I'm OK
Joan Armatrading - Visionary Mountains
Meshell Ndegeocello - Wasted Time
Meshell Ndegeocello - Loyalty (Live on the Chris Rock Show)
Toni Braxton - How Could An Angel Break My Heart?
Queen Latifah - What Cha Gonna Do? (feat. Inaya Jafan)
Alana Davis - I Don't Care (Lonesome Road)
Alana Davis - God of Love
Janet - God's Stepchild
Mariah - Breakdown (feat. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony)
Tracie Spencer - It's All About You (And Not About Me)
Anastacia - Maybe Today
Christina Aguilera - Beautiful

nod Ya, that's a great tune. REM had a lot of great songs. Almost forgot, I left off "Losing My Religion" -- it's sandwiched between the K.D. Lang and Joan Osbourne tracks.

I guess when I think "Chill-Out" I'm thinking downtempo/ambient/electronica or whatever they may call it today. There's a whole subgenre of electronic music that is often referred to as "chillout."

Feeling a little blue 2day. So I burned a cd with the following songs! Called "Miguel's depressed songs for eternal Chill-out"

Etienne Trilogy: The Highlands/Etienne/Skyeboat Song - Y Tori Kant Read
Caribbean Blue - Enya
Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinéad O'Connor
Live to Tell - Madonna
Fallen - Sarah McLachlan
Tocando Em Frente - Maria Bethânia
Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper
dareakano negai ga kanau koro - Hikaru Utada
The Big Sky [Meteorogical Mix] - Kate Bush
Pagan Poetry - Björk
Black Cherry [Single Mix] - Goldfrapp
Childhood Dreams - Nelly Furtado
Hoy - Gloria Estefan
A Case of You - Joni Mitchell
Que Me Quedes Tú - Shakira
Put Yourself in My Place [Acoustic Version] - Kylie Minogue

This sounds amazing! I have one that begins with the Etienne Trilogy and includes Joni and Bjork but has some Lisa Gerrard, David Sylvian and a Tori/Leonard Cohen collaboration (Silent All These Years ~ LC opens with a reading), Depeche Mode ~ Somebody~The Lonely Mix. Leonard Cohen ~ Suzanne, Clan Of Xymox ~ Flatlands and Van Morrison ~ Have i Told You Lately. I'll have to look it up ~ your thread makes me want to hear it again!
