Z Cult Favorite - "Everlasting Love" or "Hollywood"

Hello my funk brothers and sisters. I know you're there, cuz uh, I can hear ya! Rufus's glorious album "Ask Rufus" from 1977 is choke full of great cuts. But to me, the stand out songs are "Everlasting Love" and "Hollywood". These two songs are some of Chaka's best material ever. These two songs, for me, are like a girl that lived next door to me. I grew up with these songs and have adored them, still to this day. So, I ask my beloved World Funk Mob (that's ya'll): Out of the two songs, which do you prefer?

Everlasting Love is my cut BG Baby. I love the manner in which Chaka vocals intertwined with melody of the song. As a vocalist, she is one of my inlfuences and I have memories of vibing with this tune.

They're both fantastic to me. I love them equally, cuz the vibe of the songs are totally different from each other, but they're both strong. I have seperate memories for both.

I'm gonna go with "Hollywood". (Didn't Stevie Wonder write that?) That song is so visual (like "Living For The City) and has a lot of feel to it. It's almost like a movie.

Nah player! Stevie wrote "Maybe Your Baby" which they covered AND "Tell Me Something Good".

My bad...(lol)..I could have sworn he wrote "Hollywood" too. I wonder what Rufus and Chaka would have sounded like if Sly had written some stuff for them?

Everlasting Love - Cool chord changes and I prefer the love story to the somewhat tired beaten down by Hollywood tale.
Also the song is a better showcase for The Voice. love

Both are great tracks. nod

Both great tracks. I can't choose. I gotta add "Stay" to the mix, too. Those songs bring back those Saturday memories - y'know, when your mom's cleanin' the house and singing along to the hippest r&b cuts of the day (my mom's faves were Natalie Cole, LaBelle, and Al Green) while you're playing in your room/staying out of her way smile

Ah,the memories...

"Hollywood" music

There is a deep sadness to the lyrics and the arrangement....such an emotional and soulful song! One of the strongest Rufus and Chaka songs.

I like Everlasting Love for showing Chaka's lower register plus it haunting and beatuiful...
But so is Hollywood. Showing Chaka's regular high resiter.

Im GONNa go with "Hollywood" though. The ending is better. So is the chorus.

Where u goin..chile..... love LOVE that part!
