you saw her liza show?!? i'm so jealous!!! eyepop

i wanted to see that - it was karen finley's tribute to liza and NYC, basically saying that liza is the personification of post-9/11 NYC - kind of touching and mean at the same time, really.

It was a good show, but also a very distracting show. It would have been more effective if she stayed in character, but her backup Lizas were fun. It was very moving at times, and it seemed like she was constantly on the verge of tears. Some woman's mobile phone went off - in the front row, no less - and she pulled her up on the stage, took the phone from her, and started a conversation with the person on the phone! lol We thought for sure that the woman was planted in the audience, because it worked out too well. But she was just some idiot.

i've seen other karen finley shows, and she's really good at making the best of awkward moments and mistakes - it's almost like she anticipates or looks forward to them. sometimes her shows can come off as sloppy, but as far as i'm concerned, she has the personality to get away with it. i've been a little worried about her over the past few years, though - the end of her autobiography/retrospective book made it sound as if she were washing her hands of everything. sad

I kind of got that impression from the show. I didn't know what to expect, because I'd never seen her. What I didn't expect was for it to be tame - and that's what it was. Not bad by any means, just not what she's known for.
